What a term it has been! I have to say that I am delighted by the way our children have settled in across the school after a turbulent couple of years. We have been abiding by our values of 'Ready, Respectful & Safe', undertaking restorative meetings to solve conflicts and have a deeper understanding of the Learner Profile Attributes. Next term we are looking at reestablishing clubs, observing remembrance and hosting a wondrous Christmas Fair.
Can I take a moment to celebrate my wonderful members of staff at Marden Primary Academy. They have really pulled together to help cover absences and importantly, put the needs of the pupils above all else. It was incredible to have Mrs and Miss Williams onsite yesterday to discuss their long-awaited return. It has been an emotional time for all concerned and we can't wait to have them back in a phased capacity. The plan is for Mrs Williams to come and support the Year 5/6 team in the near future.
Please do ensure your children read, use numbots or times table rockstars and enjoy the fresh air! I wish you all a restful and safe break.
Mr N Dosad
You may have heard of a program called Squid Game which is currently being shown on Netflix. Despite the programme's 15 age rating, clips and images from the programme are being uploaded onto social media sites such as TikTok and Youtube. There have been reports of children who have accounts on these platforms inadvertently viewing gory, explicit scenes from the programme, and parents and carers should be mindful of the prevalence of these uploads.
As a parent or carer, we recommend you keep a watchful eye on the content that your children are viewing. Speak to them openly and chat about how they have been spending time on their devices; let them ask questions, too. Ensure that the parental controls are activated on your child's device and that age-restricted child profiles are properly set up any on-demand services available through the family TV (such as Netflix, in this case) to prevent inappropriate content being streamed.
In the guide below you can find tips on a number of potential risks such as screen addiction, inappropriate content and hackers. You can also find out more about how to setup parental controls on Netflix here
For more advice about Squid Game and the risks to children please see this article from National Online Safety.
Nursery rhymes are important for children because they help to develop an ear for language. Both rhythm and rhyme help children to hear and identify sounds and syllables in words, which later supports your child to read.
Why not try some of the activities below over the half term break?
Learn a new nursery rhyme;
Create word families: Agree on a word ending (for example -at) then put different letters in front to create rhyming words (cat, mat, sat);
Read your child a rhyming book or poem and miss out the final word. Can your child fill in the blank?
PTA Messages
We are inviting children to get into the spirit of Halloween by carving some pumpkins over half term.
Please carve or decorate a pumpkin, take a picture of yourself with your pumpkin and email your photo to office@mardenprimaryacademy.org.uk

The PTA are currently planning our Christmas Fair which takes place on Saturday 11th December.
One of our most popular stalls is the Silent Auction and we are now looking for donations. Do you run a local business? Are you able to donate a product or service to help us? Do you have a particular talent that you would like to donate as a prize? Do you have a caravan, glamping or holiday property you would be willing to offer for a weekend break?
We are looking for a wide variety of prizes and would be so grateful if you could help us out. Please email mardenpta@outlook.com with any ideas or donations.
Office Messages
A reminder to parents that the cost or school meal is ÂŁ2.45 and all meals should be paid for in advance, preferably on a Monday. After half term, we will be introducing a new system whereby children will not be allowed a school meal if their account is in debt. Where a child is in debt, but down for a school meal, a phone call will be made to parents requesting payment or that they provide their child with a packed lunch.
We are pleased to inform you that Braiswick Photographers will be visiting the academy on Wednesday 17th November to carry out individual and sibling photos. All children should be in full uniform on this day. If you have younger children who do not attend Marden Primary Academy, there will be an opportunity for them to have photos taken with with their older siblings between 3-4pm.
