It's the end of term three and I have the pleasure of opening our newsletter with the news that Mr and Mrs Dosad have welcomed a new baby boy this week! I'm sure you will join all of us here in congratulating the growing Dosad family.
The children have worked incredibly hard this term. I've been popping in and out of classrooms and it's been wonderful to see the children so engrossed in their inquiries and eager to share their learning. We are looking forward to developing new ways to share our learning with you as we head into the second half of the academic year.
The academy is closed to pupils on Friday 11th February and Monday 21st February so that our team can spend valuable time together developing our curriculum and continuing to make Marden Primary Academy the best it can be.
Have a wonderful break and we will see you all back for more exciting learning on Tuesday 22nd February!

Even before lockdowns inflamed the situation, one in every five 10- to 15-year-olds was experiencing bullying online: abusive messages, having rumours spread about them or being excluded from group chats, for example. Through smartphones and tablets, we’re used to being able to communicate from anywhere, at any time – but digital devices became commonplace so quickly that it caused a problem: as a society, we haven’t properly adjusted to how different they’ve made life. Our top tips can help you to build positive relationships online and avoid some of the potential issues.
In the guide, you'll find a number of tips such as how to stop internet addiction, being aware of the dark side, and pressing ‘pause’.
This is part of our Online Relationships and Online Bullying categories.

Sports News
Our first KS1 football match in Marden's recent history was a really enjoyable experience for all the children involved, many who were playing a competitive football match for the first time. Greenfields were a very good side who ran out deserved 9-0 winners, but this was always going to be a learning curve for many. With continual practise and match experience, this team will improve dramatically, and all should be proud of how they played. Player of the match goes to Finley for some fantastic saves and goalkeeping exploits despite the scoreline.
We followed up our Greenfields game with a home game against St Georges the day after, and it was already clear how much the children had learnt from the previous game. It was a much closer game with chances aplenty for both sides. However, St Georges were just more clinical and ended up 3-0 winners. The children should take massive credit though, because they fought from start to finish, looked more dangerous, and had clearly learnt from the day before. It is very exciting to see how we do in our upcoming games in the next module with further improvement. Player of the match goes to Lucia for a superb effort throughout the game, persisting and tackling wherever she could.
RM: Ben has been a wonderful friend this week. He has been quick to help out when a friend was stuck, demonstrating real care. He asked " Can I help you?" and together they solved a problem. Thank you Ben!
RMC: Igor has been a brilliant communicator this week. Whilst building a car, Igor was able to use new language that he had learnt to communicate clearly with his teachers and his friends. Your friends loved looking round your car Igor, keep it up!
1M: Esme is an absolute pleasure to have in Late Stay Club and is always thinking of others, showing care, compassion and kindness to staff as well as her peers.
1/2S: Xanthe such a super thinker. She makes great choices, tries her hardest to solve problems independently and has great ideas to share with others. Well done!
2D: Dulcie has been a brilliant thinker this week, really considering her phonetic sounds and how these appear in words, as well as sharing facts on how we know what stage people are on in their life cycle.
3B: Aoife-Lilly has been an amazing communicator this week, sharing her ideas and showing her understanding of our entire unit of inquiry. She has worked hard with a partner to write a news script and has demonstrated everything she has learnt. Well done!
3/4D: Isla has been a knowledgeable learner this term. She has developed a great interest in non-renewable and renewable sources of energy and has shared her extended findings with the class.
4WB: Maryann was a risk-taker during our class debate this week. She considered which side of the debate she wanted to support even though it meant that she was separated from her friends and out of her comfort zone. We were so proud of you. Well done Maryann!
5DK: Megan O worked hard this week to show balance. Through her research and learning throughout the term, she was able to write a fantastic balanced argument that included all the required features and showed off everything she has learned so far this year.
5A: During this week of inquiry, Alexander has created a balanced argument, identifying the positives and negatives of technology and the impact it has on society. His demonstration of the different features shows his learning journey throughout the term.
6CK: In his final week at Marden, Yannick has shown he is a knowledgeable learner, writing a persuasive letter that was full of great rainforest knowledge in order to persuade the government to do more in preventing deforestation.
Marden History Group
Some time before lockdown, a documentary film made by Philip Day was shown at the school relating to the V2 rocket which crashed in Chainhurst.
Philip has produced another documentary, ‘Fields and their Secrets’ this time about the German pilot Franz von Werra who crashed behind Loves Farm,
just outside the village. A book was written about this pilot ‘The One that got Away’ as the only German who escaped the British, and in 1957 a film was
made with Hardy Kruger, who sadly died this January, as von Werra.
If you, anyone in your family or friends would be interested to see this film, it is being shown in Marden church on Friday 25 February, 7-9.15pm.
Entry is free although donations in aid of Marden History Group would be appreciated. Refreshments will be available.

While playing imaginatively, Isaac created a storyline and invited his friend to play. He communicated his plans effectively and as a result the two friends played for an extended period of time. It was wonderful to observe such great learning!
Molly has made exceptional progress when writing this half term. She is not afraid to take risks and this is paying off! Molly is using her phonic knowledge and ability to spell tricky words when writing simple sentences. Go Molly!
RM Class Reminders
Our Team have had another fantastic half term. All of the adults in Team RM are so proud of the wonderful progress all of our children are making. Thank you for your continued support at home, we couldn't do it without you!
Next half term we will be looking at homes in the past. If you have any old photos of your home when you were little we would love to see it.
Have a wonderful break and we look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 22nd February.
Archie has been a very reflective learner this week. Whilst playing in the water tray, Archie set himself a challenge to be able to fill up a container with water. Archie tried many different ways to do this and, each time, reflected on why it wasn't working. Archie eventually was able to find a way that filled up the container quickly, without any spillages. Well done Archie. Keep up the inquisitive behaviour!
This week, Ethan has been a fantastic inquirer! In the garden, using the large loose parts, Ethan and some friends create a giant set of balancing scales that they could use to compare weight on. Ethan made, and tested, several predictions regarding weight and was able to draw a conclusion from using the balancing scales. Ethan led his friends through their learning with his excellent inquiry skills. We are very proud of you Ethan!
RMC Class Reminders
RMC had a fantastic first official PE lesson this week. The children were brilliant at changing themselves and the only stray piece of uniform afterwards was one singular sock, well done RMC!! Please can you ensure all items of school uniform and PE kit are clearly labelled, we didn't have any mix ups this week but want to make sure that they can be easily rectified if needed! If your child wears tights to school, please can you provide them with a pair of socks to wear during PE lessons.

A superb week Finley! You have clearly been open-minded in your approach to learning by carefully considering your next steps, either independently or from myself, and your work has shown the positive impact so well done. I also need to thank you for your brilliant goalkeeping in our games this week- you clearly have a skill and I look forward to you developing it!

Two massive celebrations in 2D this week. The first is that the children have met their reading target for the first time this year and had their reward afternoon. Let us see if they can reach their module 4 target. The second is that our class finished 2nd in the TTRS competition which is a great effort considering they are only KS1. They are very excited to try and reach first place, and are aiming for this in the half term competition, so please give them ample opportunity over the next 7 days when possible.
As always, thank you all for your support with your child's learning this term- please read with them when possible over the break, but do also have a lovely time together with all you do.

Well done Rosie for being a risk-taker.
Arwen has tried her best in her work throughout the week. She has developed the ability to work independently and has also been able to edit her work. 6WCK Class Reminders
We had such an inspirational online workshop with Charlie Baker from the Born Free Foundation on Tuesday this week. She engaged us all with new facts about the tropical rainforests of Africa and the plight of primates that live there. We took part in a fascinating quiz that got us all thinking about the weird and wonderful names of mammals in the rainforest. We learnt about what our role is in order to protect rainforest habitats so that children could write and present emotive speeches.
The Born Free Foundation does such incredible work to look after animals in their own natural habitats around the world as well as providing sanctuary for animals most at risk. We all felt extremely motivated to support the work this wonderful charity does and as a result of our inquiry and campaigning, we have decided as a year group that we would like to adopt an animal. If you would like to support our class adoption, please bring £1.00 to school when we return after half term. Please feel free to visit the charity website: https://www.bornfree.org.uk/
Homework is due in when you return on Tuesday 22nd February. As an additional item of interest, children may feel inspired to find out more about one of the heroes we have encountered in our class book, 'Wonderscape', for example: Isaac Newton, Tomoe Gozen, Mary Shelley or Thomas Edison.
