This week I have really enjoyed seeing Marden Primary Academy's exciting curriculum. We are an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Candidate School, delivering the national curriculum through an international transdisciplinary lens. What this essentially means is that we draw on a range of skills and knowledge from across the national curriculum and apply them in meaningful contexts to deepen children's understanding. The children are fully engaged in their inquiries, so ask them about their central ideas and lines of inquiry. I'm sure you will be impressed with their knowledge of local and global issues.
I look forward to seeing you to talk all about it, at next week's coffee morning, see below for details.
Mr N Dosad
We all want to continue being informed and inspired by the ever-expanding capabilities of the internet. But we also need to be able to safeguard ourselves against the growing amount of online hazards. Knowing what is fact, understanding what dangers exist and taking appropriate steps can go a long way towards protecting yourself and your family. National Online Safety has collaborated with the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Cyber Crime Unit to compile 10 pointers to help you keep your children safe from cyber crime.
In the guide, you'll find tips such as backing up your data, how to spot phishing bait and how to recognise warning signs.
The learner profile attributes form part of the PYP framework. The ten attributes are listed on the left. Children develop them throughout their time in school. There is no set order to them and they are all equally important.
The learner profile attributes represent the capacities and responsibilities for intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth. Each child develops these skills at a personal level. For example, what taking a risk look like for them, rather than comparing to somebody else.
During each inquiry, we highlight up to three attributes as a focus. However, all of the attributes are referred to across the curriculum and across the academy. You will see the attributes in our star pupils below, too.
Please join us on Thursday 27th January at 9am for a coffee morning with Mr Dosad, Mrs Rawling and Mrs Bryant. Further information will be sent next week.
Covid-19 Update
This change came into effect in England on Monday 17 January and applies to all positive cases, regardless of vaccination status.
People who are self-isolating with COVID-19 have the option to reduce their isolation period after 5 full days if they test negative with an LFD test on both day 5 and day 6 and they do not have a temperature. For example, if they test negative on the morning of day 5 and the morning of day 6, they can return to their education or childcare setting immediately on day 6.
The first test must be taken no earlier than day 5 of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day. All test results should be reported to NHS Test and Trace.
If the result of either test is positive, they should continue to self-isolate until they get negative results from two LFD tests on consecutive days or until they have completed 10 full days of self-isolation, whichever is earliest.
Anyone who is unable to take LFD tests or anyone who continues to have a temperature will need to complete the full 10-day period of self-isolation.
Further information on self-isolation for those with COVID-19 is available.

6WCK Class Reminders
Year 6 have shown great engagement in their learning about deforestation this week, culminating in learning about the production of palm oil as a major contributor to this global problem. As a result of our learning, the children have planned the initial steps of their own campaign to create change in either reducing the problem of palm oil production, or raising awareness of the issues and impact. Please find the time over the weekend to raid your kitchen and bathroom cupboards to check the ingredients for palm oil. How many different products can you find in your home that use palm oil? You may wish to take photographs or record your findings so that it can potentially support your campaign.
Please make sure you have logged into the year 6 Google classroom for homeworking. If you haven't yet joined, please click on the link below.
