This week has had that all too familiar feeling in recent times with messages coming from the Department of Education about restrictions and guidance. At this moment in time, the restrictions are mainly to do with the wearing of facemasks in communal areas in all settings by staff, visitors and pupils in year 7 and above, unless they are exempt. However, if your child would feel more comfortable wearing a facemask in school, that is of course allowed.
Marden Primary Academy has been hard hit with the pandemic with both staff and children alike having the virus at various times. The impact of this is far-reaching, impacting attendance at school and consistency of education which is pivotal to your child's success. We also appreciate that the closure of bubbles or indeed the school, has put increased pressure on your work and home life, which is why we will continue to do everything in our power to keep the school fully functioning.
What this has meant though, is thinking once again about how we can be mindful of Christmas events, the last thing we want is for an event we host, to have an impact on Christmas day with your loved ones. We have taken the decision, unlike many local primaries not to cancel any event. However, limiting the number of parents in the building seems like a very proportionate response to the growing cases nationally. For the KS2 performance, for example, we have 159 pupils, with two parents attending over two performances, we would have in excess of 320 people in our hall on each performance. By limiting the event to one parent, there will still be in excess of 240 people in our school hall. We have added extra dates and times for the KS1/EYFS performances to again reduce numbers. This is not just a Covid issue, we have to think about the health and safety aspect of having that number of people in such a small space. We hope by recording the performances and sending the links to watch via YouTube, that the whole family can sit around and watch the performances together.

Cryptocurrency is software enabling the exchange and storage of digital ‘coins’ representing financial value. To monitor who owns which coins, platforms save an online record of every transaction, called a ‘ledger’ or ‘blockchain’. This is secured by cryptography: a set of methods for protecting sensitive information. Bitcoin, released in 2009, was the first cryptocurrency; other platforms have since launched such as Ethereum, Tezos and Filecoin. As cryptocurrency becomes a more established part of digital life, young people are bound to encounter it – so it’s vital that trusted adults understand its risks, and how it can be explored and used safely.
In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as complex technology, scams and risky investments

Sports News
On Friday, Marden travelled for their first away fixture of the year against Tiger Primary School. The game was tough and the team came up against a strong opposition who made them work incredibly hard. After going 1-0 up, Marden were pegged back to 1-1, before again grabbing the lead to make it 2-1 at half time. Straight after the break, Tiger scored a spectacular goal that Albert could do little about. This seemed to be the spark Marden needed. Having worked hard all game with little reward, Ollie began to break free and run the defence into the ground. The work rate of the team led to them picking up 4 second half goals and eventually running out 6-2 winners. Congratulations on another good win!
On Tuesday, our team of netballers travelled to West Borough Primary for our first fixture of the year. This was the team's first game together and for many, their first experience of playing competitive netball.
Resolute defence and some fantastic attacking flair as well as clinical shooting, culminated in the team winning 18-2! A resounding victory - well played, team!

Attendance
We are still struggling with low attendance, this is a polite reminder that you must report your child absent and provide us with evidence. We understand that children become unwell especially at this time of year and will take this into account, however if we do not see documentation to why your child is off then their absence will be marked as unauthorised and this could incur a penalty fine. We still have many families who have an attendance below 96% and this is having a huge impact on teaching and learning. KCC are aware of the families who are not attending school on a regular basis and penalty fines will be issued.
Attendance Advent - please complete these with your children and return to us on the last day off term for them to receive a special treat.
Absence Reporting
Please ensure all absences are reported to the office by 9am every morning.
You can do this quickly and easily via the Studybugs app, email or leaving a message on the absence line.
