Christmas time is upon us! With decorations being assembled, carols being chanted and plays being rehearsed - it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We can't wait to have you in school for all of the festivities. We have Christmas shows and our Christmas Fair on 11th December and I for one am very excited!
We will also send correspondence regarding parents evening next week, but the date for your diaries is Wednesday 8th December. This is planned to be face to face which I know as a parent, is something very special which we haven't had over the past two years. Please bear with us whilst we plan the best way in which to make this a smooth experience whilst thinking about keeping our community as safe as possible.
It is nice to see an upturn in attendance this week with RM, 1MT, 2D, 4WB, 5DK and 6CK all with better attendance. I am looking forward to celebration assembly on Monday to see what house has the best attendance across the school too. I am really looking forward to celebrating our first 100% class of the year, which hopefully, will be next week!
Mr N Dosad
Last year, around one in five children aged 10–15 in England and Wales admitted experiencing online bullying: most commonly being insulted or sworn at, or having hurtful messages sent about them. To a child who’s being bullied, the world can seem like a bleak, negative place – but just one kind word can be a ray of hope: a turning point that brightens someone’s day and resets their perspective. That’s why ‘One Kind Word’ is the theme of Anti-Bullying Week 2021. We’re supporting this year’s event by bringing you ten top tips for beating online bullying by replacing it with kindness.
In the guide, you'll find tips such as reaching out, thinking before commenting and recommending fun things.
Reading to your child is both a wonderful way to spend time together and also an effective way to engage your child in conversation. Students of all ages love stories and love to talk about stories. Listed below are a few titles to begin the conversation about mathematics at home:
'Caps for Sale' by Esphyr Slobodkina (Number Sense and Patterning)
'The Doorbell Rang' by Pat Hutchins (Number Sense)
'Count to 10 with a Mouse' by Margaret Wise Brown (Number Sense)
'Is a Blue Whale the Biggest Thing There Is?' by Robert Wells (Number Sense and Measurement)
'Actual Size' by Steve Jenkins (Measurement)
'One Grain of Rice, by Demi (Number Sense and Multiplication and Division)
'Grandfather Tang’s Story, by Ann Tompert (Geometry)
'Stone Soup' by Heather Forest (Data Management and Probability)
If you and your child are more comfortable in a language other than English, then read to your child in that language.
Times Tables Rock Stars
Today, we have launched a competition between KS2 classes on TT Rockstars. Each week, we will celebrate the winning class who will be crowned Rockstar champions for that week which you will be able to find on the newsletter. We will also be celebrating the Rockstar champion of each class, as well as our overall KS2 champion.
Therefore, in addition to any time your child spends on TT Rockstars in school, please encourage them to access this in their spare time. It is a great tool in encouraging multiplication fluency but enjoyment of maths- and everyone loves a competition! If your child needs their login details for home, please contact their class teacher.
We are also currently in competition against other Primary schools within the Trust, so a herculean effort by one and all will give us the best chance of being named LAT Rockstars Champions. Class 6CK is currently top of the leaderboard. This ends on the 13th December so anytime your child spends will not only help their class, but help the school!
Enjoy!

Children In Need
A BIG thank you to everyone who participated in the non-uniform day last Friday and donated towards Children In Need. We raised a fantastic £285.23 for the charity. Well done all!!!
Friday 19th November saw the long awaited return of competitive sport to Marden Primary Academy with the visit of Coxheath KS2 football team in the 1st round of the cup. It's safe to say, it was definitely worth the wait!
From the moment the game started, the team worked together, passing their way through the opposition and creating numerous openings. Chances came and went in the opening 5 minutes before the deadlock was eventually broken by Marden. This dominance led to a 4-0 half time score. In the second half, Coxheath came back strong, showing excellent resilience but Marden stuck to their game plan and eventually ran out 6-1 winners.
Congratulations to all the team - Samuel B, Ollie, Albert, Lucas, Louis, Joshua, Zach and Kacper.
Keep a look out for future fixtures as the football team travel to Tiger (26th November) and the Netball team take on West Borough (30th November).
Office Messages
The children have been working incredibly hard on their Christmas Performances and we are delighted to be able to invite parents and carers back into the academy to watch them. Both performances will be recorded, so if you are unable to make the live events please don't panic. The recordings will be circulated after the events.
As with previous years, we are restricting the number of tickets to 2 per child. Tickets will be released next week and must be presented on the day upon arrival so please keep them safe. You will not be allowed into the academy if you do not have a ticket.
The Christmas Card Post Box will be on display in Reception from Wednesday 1st December. Children are invited to write cards for their friends and staff. Please ensure the recipient's name and class is written on the front of the envelope and our Year 6 elves will do daily collections and deliveries to the classrooms.
Your child should have brought home their school photo proof card yesterday. The easiest way to order is online via the Braiswick Photographic website www.braiswick.co.uk/orders
If you wish to pay via cash, please ensure any cash order envelopes are returned to the office (with the correct money) by Friday 3rd December. Orders placed after this time will incur a £4 admin charge.
All children are required to bring a water bottle into school each day. Children are able to access fresh water throughout the day and are encouraged to drink regularly. No flavoured/sparkling water, squash or fizzy drinks are permitted for consumption.

Any child who has attendance below 96% will be receiving a letter from the school detailing their child's attendance and any next steps that might need to be taken. We are working closely with Kent County Council to ensure all children who attend Marden Primary Academy do so on a daily basis. Where the child's attendance has fallen below 96% and we have not seen an improvement then penalty fines will be made. If you child is off sick or has a medical appointment please report this to the office. It is imperative that we have this information to ensure that your child does not receive an unauthorised absence mark. We would welcome any documentation to state why your child has been off i.e. Doctor's notes / appointment letters.
Absence Reporting
Please ensure all absences are reported to the office by 9am every morning.
You can do this quickly and easily via the Studybugs app, email or leaving a message on the absence line.
