We have had another lovely week at Marden, with lots of exciting learning experiences.
On Tuesday, some of our Year 6 children took part in a Trust swimming gala. They did a fantastic job and made it into the finals for one of the events. Well done to everyone who took part, we are very proud of you.
Thank you to all those who supported Children in Need yesterday - we will let you know the total amount raised soon. We really do appreciate the support you have shown. The money raised means that they can continue to support disadvantaged children and young people across the UK, so that they can live safe, happy lives and have a chance to reach their potential.
The weather has definitely started to get colder this week. As it gets colder, please can we ask that you remind your child to bring their coat into school.

Reminder
If someone else is collecting your child on your behalf, please ensure you have contacted the office in advance so that a message can be passed on to the adults in the classroom. If we have not had a message, we will not release the child until we have made contact with you. This is to keep the children safe.

We have a big idea but we need your help!
The children spend a significant amount of time outside at lunchtime and we would like to develop their opportunities for play. We have been inspired by similar projects and would now like to bring this to Marden Primary Academy.
We want to have more natural and man-made resources available to the children on the playground so that they can be engaged in an inspiring and creative lunchtime play.
We know that high-quality play helps to develop children's physical and mental health as well as supporting their communication, ability to create friendships and solve problems. We want to ensure that lunchtime is time well spent and that the children are thriving in engaging play opportunities.
We are looking for things such as:
washing up bowls, saucepans, baking trays, cake tins, spoons
pots to collect things in (not glass)
binoculars, old cameras, keyboards, telephones
plastic magnifying glasses
small world toys (animals, dinosaurs, people etc) and duplo
cars, boats and other vehicles
paintbrushes of all different sizes and rollers
clipboards, notebooks and notepads
guttering, plastic pipes, tubes and hoses
buckets, spray bottles, watering cans
funnels, measuring jugs, bowls
artificial grass offcuts
If you have any of these items at home that you are willing to donate to us, please drop them in at the office.
Rewards
House points - We have relaunched our house point system this year. As well as House Team rewards such as non-school uniform day at the end of term, the children can earn their own rewards. We have also introduced a golden house point which is worth 10 house points! These are given out for exceptional pieces of work or children who have done something exceptional.
Principal's Award - Every Friday, the teachers select one child from their class to receive a Principal's Award. These are linked to the Learner Profile Attributes. Children who receive these get 5 house points, a sticker and have biscuits and a chat with Mrs Penning.
Office Messages
Cycling can be a fun and healthy way to pass the time for children and young people – encouraging them to go outside and stay active, while also spending quality time with parents, carers or other trusted adults. It’s also a useful skill for adult life: teaching youngsters how to use a cheaper, healthier and more eco-friendly method of transportation where possible.
However, the risk of injuries that cycling carries can quickly put young people off the hobby. If a child is being introduced to cycling as an activity, it’s essential that they’re also taught how to stay safe while out and about. This free guide offers you expert advice on how to practise safe cycling and preserve the wellbeing of children when going out for a ride.
