What a wonderful start to the year! It has been great to greet you all without half of our faces covered up at the gate and the children have settled in well across the academy. Please make sure you introduce yourself to our new Vice Principal, Mrs Rawling, who is at the front gate every day and Mrs Bryant, our new Inclusion Lead, who is at the back gate.
There are a number of children who are struggling at the start of the day to enter the classroom. After lockdowns, a long summer and new teachers and classrooms, this is not uncommon. However, can we ask you to please come as early as possible (gates open at 8.30) to ensure that by 8.45, the site can be secure. If there is any support we can provide as a school, don't hesitate to get in touch with the class teacher via the office.
We understand there have been some issues with suppliers for the uniform and I wanted to assure you that we are chasing on your behalf also. Thank you for your patience and also for sending in your children smartly every day.
A huge well done to all of the children in 1MT who have had 100% attendance this week - keep it up! Our children have missed a lot of school over the past year and it is sad to see that in 5 of our classes, attendance is shockingly low. Every child has the right to an education and needs to be in school.
Mr N Dosad
Wow, it’s September already! The month when autumn officially starts and …the beginning of a new school year. Every cloud has a silver lining though! Another term means new friends to make, different stuff to learn, fresh online trends to jump on and exciting new games to play on your phone, computer or console. National Online Safety has compiled a list of their top tips to ensure that – whether you’re going online to chat, research things or just have fun – you can do it safely.
In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of tips such as how to spot fake news, reporting something offensive online and how to deal with bullies.
At Marden Primary Academy, we have high expectations for the attendance of our pupils. This is because we recognise that all absence is potentially detrimental to a child’s education. Missing school can damage children’s achievements, disrupt the school’s routines and affect other children’s learning. It can also leave children at risk of anti-social behaviour and youth crime. Above all, missing out on the opportunities provided in school can have a long-term effect on children’s chances in life.
In order for young people to gain maximum benefit from their time at school, and to maximise future life opportunities, it is imperative that young people attend every day, all day.
Fortnightly meetings will take place between the Principal, Inclusion Lead and Office Manager to identify those children at risk of persistent absence or other families requiring support in regards to attendance. Where necessary meetings will be held between the Inclusion Lead, Office Manager and parents/carers to identify barriers to attendance and to ensure their engagement with both school and any other external support if needed.
If attendance for these families does not improve, we will involve the Education Welfare Officer (EWO) from Kent County Council who will then join the meetings or will visit families at home.
A further step will then take place if necessary, between the academy, parents and with a Governor Panel, to reinforce the seriousness of persistent absence.
A polite reminder that the school day start at 8:45 and ends at 3:00. The school gates open at 8:30 and we expect all children to be on the school site, ready to learn by 8:45 at the latest. This is being monitored daily. Remember - Every second counts.
Please could we politely request that parents do not email the Principal or teachers directly regarding school matters. Emails should come in via the office where they will be dealt with and passed on to the relevant member of staff. Teachers will no longer respond to direct emails.
Similarly, all pupil absences should be reported via Studybugs or the office and not directly to teachers. Information is not always passed on which results in unnecessary phone calls to parents.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Miss Sime and I have be blown away with how well you have settled into life at Marden Primary Academy. You have all shown bravery, resilience, motivation and CARE for your new friends. We are very proud of you all!
