Principal's Message

We have had another busy week here at Marden.

This week we have voted for our new house captains. The children who wanted to be considered for the role delivered a speech to their house teams who then took part in a vote. I would like to say a huge well done to everyone who took part, your speeches were excellent and you all showed yourselves to be excellent role models for the school.

All classes have started their first inquiry and the children have been hard at work, sharing ideas and learning about new concepts. They have created a range of outcomes from building robots in Year 2 to discussing ethical questions related to their class text in Year 6.

Clubs have started again this week and it has been lovely to see all of the children getting involved and enjoying their extra-curricular learning.

Our PTA is planning to have their first meeting later this month. If you are interested in getting involved in the PTA or would be willing to help at some of the upcoming events please let us know. We will be sharing with you some dates for events they are planning in the newsletter soon.

Introducing Our New House Captains

Alicia, Rosie, Aeris, Rowan, Jacob, Amber, Connie & Leah

A big congratulations to the following Year 6s who this week were elected House Captains during our democratic voting process enjoyed by the whole school.

Desert: Alicia A and Rosie W

Ocean: Aeris S and Rowan T

Polar: Jacob B and Amber H

Rainforest: Connie F and Leah S

Congratulations also need to go to the other candidates who stood in the election. It takes a lot of courage to stand in front of your peers (and adults) and even though the result is not what they would have wanted, they should all be extremely proud for putting themselves forward and delivering fantastic speeches.

A Message From The PTA!

Dear parents and staff,

I would like to invite you all to attend our Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the school Parent Teacher Association (PTA) which is due to be held on Thursday 28 th September at 6pm in the school hall. A glass of fizz will be on offer for all those who can join us!

This is open to everyone to come along. Also during the meeting we will be discussing any fundraising ideas and events for the coming year and wish to hear your views. I would like to encourage as many parents with children in school to attend the meeting as possible as the PTA benefits every child in school and only works with parents and teachers support. We would particularly welcome parents of pupils new to the school.

PTA Purpose

The PTA is an organisation run solely by volunteers to raise money to help the school provide materials, resources and experiences for the benefit of everyone who uses the school by running a variety of events throughout the school year, including the Christmas Fair and glow discos.

Significantly, the activities help to bring parents together and promote good communication between parents, staff and the village while working towards the common goal of a tight-knit caring community.

All the parents and staff are members of the PTA, by default. Your involvement can be from enjoying the events to helping organise the events to suggesting new money raising ideas.

The PTA always welcomes and encourages new members. It is great to have the opportunity to capitalise upon the talents, skillsets and experience of our parents and staff.

As an example, in the past year the PTA has been able to assist the school by:

This year our plan is to:

National Online Safety

One of the more heartwarming, life-affirming aspects of social media is being able to share special moments in our children’s lives with family and friends: from the first day at school or blowing out birthday cake candles to smiling holiday selfies and cute Halloween costumes. Is there, however, such a thing as too much sharing – and can it actually put children in danger?

With potential risks such as accidentally displaying identifying details (images showing where a child lives or what school they go to, for example) and photos being seen and saved by strangers, perhaps we need to take a little more caution over what we post and where we post it. Our #WakeUpWednesday guide runs through some safety considerations when sharing images
