Principal's Message

It has been a very busy week at Marden Primary Academy which all started with 3Beech going to the beach! The children had such a wonderful time and thank you to the parents who thanked the staff for all of their hard work, it really means a lot to everyone involved. It was also amazing to observe the music performance, thank you again for your attendance, I am sure you were as proud as I was. It takes a lot of courage to perform in front of an audience and I am as proud of that as I am of those who are really showing a talent for the violin. Today we have the Y2 trip to the aquarium and we are competing at the LAT Sports Day - I can't wait to see the pictures in next week's newsletter. Although, it will be a busy one with Sports Day on Tuesday, Summer Fair on Wednesday, Y6 Exhibition Thursday and EYFS Graduation on Friday! What a week ahead!

On Wednesday, we had our transition afternoon. These events are really important in preparation for next year and I am sure they all came home and talked about who their new class teacher is and where their new class is located. I appreciate there was quite a lot of information coming out at the moment but want to make sure that you are all adequately informed.

As you may know, we have changed the catering supplier to Cucina and this has coincided with a change in kitchen staff. I recognise that there have been a few challenges and I have been working closely with Cucina to ensure that standards are high. I am really pleased to say that any issues we had previously have been rectified and you can have confidence that what is on offer is of good quality. Please see pictures below from yesterday's lunch service.

What is the Summer Reading Challenge?

The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to keep reading during the school summer holidays, it’s FREE to take part, and its fun! Last year 75% of children taking part improved their reading skills over the holidays!

Taking part in the challenge helps children be better prepared to return to school, supports the move into a new year group, and can builds their confidence and self-esteem.

How can my child take part?

All you need to do is visit your local library and sign up. If they are not yet registered, that’s no problem, they can register for free and start straight away! Your child will receive a Challenge folder and collect special stickers and rewards for reading. They can read anything they like!

We will also have fun free activities all through the summer holidays, from Storytime sessions, to crafting fun, Lego clubs, and much, much more!

National Online Safety

A free online safety guide on Rumble.

Conceived as giving independent content creators equal representation in the online space, Rumble has found something of a niche in restoring a voice to influencers who have been blocked from similar platforms. It’s become particularly renowned as a forum for political debate, with some prominent account holders’ choice of subject matter attracting a degree of notoriety.

Indeed, a study by the USA’s Pew Research Centre found that the platform’s most popular topics included gun laws, the January 2021 Capitol riots and Covid vaccines. Many parents and carers may feel that these sensitive topics – when addressed in a less-than-sensitive manner – aren’t suitable for young users. Our #WakeUpWednesday guide attempts to get a feel for Rumble!
