Principal's Message

After waiting over a month for our final Ofsted report, it was a pleasure to finally share it with you. I am thrilled with it as I believe it really captures the significant strides Marden has made in the past couple of years. I felt that the children were at the heart of the report, it was focused on what they can do and how they are excelling and that makes me really proud.

The report spoke highly of the curriculum offer and personal development our children enjoy. Nothing better demonstrates this than our reflection sites. I feel these sites really show what every child has taken from Module 4 individually, whilst also showing you what learning experiences they have had throughout the term also. I hope you enjoy reading them in time for parents' consultations this coming Wednesday.

The Coronation is a really special occasion and I hope you will all join us on Friday 5th May for a picnic celebration. On the notes of celebration, some members of our Marden community will be celebrating the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid al-Fitr which translates to 'festival of breaking the fast'. Eid Mabarak.

Emergency Alerts and Secret Phones

On Sunday 23rd April there will be a national UK Emergency Alert test. In the event of an emergency, like severe flooding, the Emergency Alert system will notify all mobile phones with an alert sound - even when they are on silent.

Any alert may put victims and survivors of abuse at risk if they have a secret phone. Please share this information with victims and survivors so they can take action to prevent their phone activating during an alert. This may prevent a potential confrontation or abuse if their secret phone is discovered by their abuser.

They can watch this video from Refuge to learn how to turn off emergency alerts on their mobile phone, and prevent their phone from being detected in the event of an emergency alert.

National Online Safety

A free online safety guide on OFCOM’s Children & Parents: Media Use & Attitudes Report 2023.

Ofcom’s annual ‘Children and Parents: Media Use and Attitudes’ report provides a comprehensive picture of how young people used and interacted with the internet in the preceding year. It’s a fascinating snapshot of what games and apps young people are currently favouring, how long they spend online and how tastes change at certain ages.

While some of Ofcom’s latest findings will probably come as scant surprise (YouTube being by far the most popular platform among under-18s, for instance), other conclusions may raise an eyebrow or two. This special #WakeUpWednesday guide presents some of the report’s most eye-catching facts and figures in an accessible infographic format.

In the guide you'll find statistics and trends such as the current most popular platforms for young people and the proportion of children in each age group who play online games.
