Principal's Message

Science has been a focus this week as it's British Science Week. The children have been engaging in experiments and investigations to deepen their science knowledge and understanding. The week culminated in a forensic workshop where the children used DNA and fingerprints to find the culprit. I was impressed with the children's knowledge and use of vocabulary. Take a look at the forensics workshop page in the newsletter to see photos of the workshop.

This Sunday is Mother's Day and we are looking forward to welcoming all the mums in on Monday morning for refreshments and to join in with activities with the children.

Happy Mother's Day!

Easter Competitions

EYFS/KS1 Easter Bonnets

This year on Thursday 30th March we will be having an Easter hat/bonnet competition for the children and a parade.  Please could you support your child in designing and making an Easter hat or bonnet.  Children from each year group will be chosen as winners and will receive an Easter prize!  Your hat could be made from card, paper, or use a baseball cap/sunhat/woolly hat as a base.  Then allow your child to decide what they would like on their hat, it could be flowers, signs of new life such as lambs, chicks and chocolate eggs. It can be anything linked to Easter.  Please send the hat in with your child on the 30th March, we look forward to seeing all the wonderful hats and bonnets!

KS2 Easter Egg Scenes

After last year's egg-cellent entries, we are running our Easter egg scene competition for KS2 again. Please could you support your child in creating a design using hard boiled/blown eggs. The theme this year is ‘Best of British’ to tie in with celebrating the King's Coronation.

Ideas can incorporate landmarks, food, famous people, transport and basically anything linked to Britain. Please bring your entries into school on Thursday 30th March where they will be judged, and prizes will be awarded to the winners from each year group.

Office Messages

The Kent Messenger's ever-popular Mother's Day supplement, My Mum is featured in this week's newspapers. This year, children from Marden, and right across Kent will be showing their appreciation for their mums.

Featuring lovingly drawn pictures and thoughtful hand-written messages from children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 to their mums, My Mum gives families the perfect chance to mark this special occasion.

The My Mum souvenir supplement is a delightful keepsake to cherish close to Mother’s Day, which is on Sunday.

Staff Car Park

Please can we remind all parents that the car park at Marden Primary Academy is for staff use only. Parents should not be driving on the site and through the barrier when it is up for staff in the morning. If you are dropping children off for breakfast club, please park on the road and walk them in.

Similarly, parents should not be using the entrance to turn around in. It causes access issues for staff and is a hazard to other motorists and pedestrians.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

World Book Day Showcase

It was fantastic to see all of the children's hard work on display on Friday as part of our World Book Day showcase. World Book Day at Marden was a celebration of heroes, villains and poetry this year and the work inspired by poetry was truly fantastic. From artwork to recitals, writing to sculpting, it reflected how talented and creative our children are.

Thank you to Mrs Mason for her creative vision and design to display the showcase as incredibly as she did.

Every year, Comic Relief goes all out to help people, both in the UK and internationally, who are going through a tough time. In our area of specialism, we at National Online Safety are acutely aware that – for children and young people in particular – many of those difficult moments increasingly originate from and unfold in the digital world.

From inappropriate content to the toxic behaviour of others, online harms can do long-lasting damage. That’s why we’re passionate about helping this new generation to build their digital resilience – equipping them to deal with digital dangers. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide has a selection of tips for encouraging safe and healthy online habits.

In this guide we’ve compiled a list of useful suggestions which could help you and your family strike the right balance and build digital resilience.
