Principal's Message

We are officially now halfway through the academic year and it is a good opportunity to take stock of what a great year it has been so far. It was fantastic to see all of the parents from Year 1 in this week to see all of their learning. We also have raised substantial money for Place 2 Be charity in Mental Health Week, which is something to be really proud of. On Safer Internet Day, we all engaged in a live lesson from BBC and I also hope you saw my letter regarding the smoothwall software which adds another layer to keeping our children safe online. Early Years and Key Stage 1 also had Road Safety training this week, learning life skills is integral to everyone at Marden and I know they have learnt some valuable tools. Finally, last night we had the PTA Valentines Disco! It was tremendously attended and raised much-needed funds for the school. Next term we will be sharing our plans for investing the money raised in enrichment opportunities to support the learning of pupils and their inquiries.

Thank you for all of your support this year, it has been humbling reading the parent and student survey this week and I assure you that we will continue to improve and develop as a result of your comments. Have a great half term.

National Online Safety

A free online safety guide on 10 ways gaming can support positive outcomes.

Gaming, of course, is phenomenally popular with children and young people. In 2021, for instance, more than three-quarters of teenagers played online games, with almost 70% of primary school aged children doing likewise. If enjoyed in moderation and supported by a healthy routine (staying hydrated, good sleep habits, taking breaks and so on), gaming can actually benefit a person’s mental health. As long as we stay alert for potential risks, games can be much more than what we see on the surface: they can be a way to socialise, an avenue for creativity and a route to solving problems. Our top ten tips outline how gaming online can sometimes work to your child’s advantage.

In the guide you'll find a number of potential benefits including a sense of achievement, learning about teamwork and encouraging creativity.
