Principal's Message
We extend our thanks to those of you who participated in the recent survey regarding the use of smartphones. We had over a hundred responses. The survey results indicate that a significant number of parents acknowledge both the advantages and potential risks associated with technology. Moreover, many expressed a desire for additional information and support in these areas, particularly on how to introduce parental controls to support in supervising/restricting their child’s usage. We are looking to hold some information sessions about this in the near future. We will update you after the Christmas holidays on dates/times for this.
Our current policy regarding phones, including smartphones, is as follows:
Phones are permitted on school premises only for children in Year 5 and Year 6 who walk home independently.
Phones must remain turned off at all times while on site.
All phones are to be handed in upon arrival at school and will be securely stored until the end of the day.
Failure to comply with these procedures will result in confiscation of the device, with parents required to collect it. The child will then be prohibited from bringing their phone to school.
From the responses, several parents of children in younger year groups were interested in postponing the introduction of smartphones until their child is older. We will continue to monitor this sentiment and review it in the future. For those interested, a link to sign the Smartphone Free Pact can be found here: https://www.smartphonefreechildhood.org/parent-pact
As part of our ongoing commitment to online safety, we aim to establish a committee comprising parents and children to stay informed about new apps and necessary information. Should you wish to participate, please email the school office.
Thank you again for your ongoing support in keeping our children safe.
As the festive season approaches, we are delighted to witness nativity rehearsals, carols resonating throughout the hall, and musical instruments being played in classes. Next Friday will feature a non-uniform day to collect donations for the tombola; any contributions would be greatly appreciated.
