Mental preparation and personal protection considerations
Live-fire qualification: 50 rounds fired (see qualification standard below)
6-hour course may be split into Part 1 (classroom) and Part 2 (range). Only bring your firearm to Part 2.
Handgun, eyes/ears, 50 rounds brass ammo. Rentals $20; ammo sold separately. Not included in course fee.
To receive your certificate you must qualify on the range during the course:
90% of impacts (45 of 50 rounds) must be within or touching the black ring on the target.
The remaining 10% (5 rounds) must be on paper.
Distances: qualification includes shooting at 10 feet and 15 feet (designated distances).
If you cannot qualify during the class you will be offered remediation (recommended) and must re-qualify before certificate issuance. Remediation (private lessons or another course) may use rounds but does not count as an official qualification unless performed under course conditions without coaching.
Unsafe handling or failure to qualify = no certificate.
Important: Instructors will enforce standards strictly. Failure to qualify or unsafe handling will result in removal from the range and no certificate. Please don’t argue on the range — discuss concerns afterwards in private.
This course meets requirements for Wisconsin residents who intend to carry in Minnesota, but students must obtain the Minnesota license through Minnesota authorities after completing the training.
