This is a highly visible and active music performance class. Woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments are played in this ensemble. Students will be required to perform in the Tiger Pride Marching Band during the fall semester. Concert music literature will be studied throughout the year. All activities, rehearsals and performances outside of regular school hours are considered part of the curriculum and are required. This course meets the university requirement for fine arts. This class may be repeated for credit.
This is a highly visible and active advanced music performance class. Saxophones, trumpets, trombones, percussion, guitar, bass, and piano are played in this ensemble. Jazz music literature will be studied throughout the year. All activities, rehearsals, and performances outside of regular school hours are considered part of the curriculum and are required. This course meets the university requirement for fine arts. This class may be repeated for credit. An audition is required for membership in the ensemble.
This music performance course is offered for both new and experienced students who are interested in learning play and advancing their guitar skills. In the beginning course, the following aspects will be introduced and developed: reading of standard music notation and tablature; major, minor, 7th, diminished, and barre chords; fingerpicking; 1st, 2nd, 5th and 7th positions; styles in Pop, Jazz, Blues, and basic improvisation; basic through advanced music theory; standard performing skills. The advanced course includes studies in movable jazz chord voicings, expansion of right and left-hand technique, correct posture, advanced note reading, aural skills, flat-picking, advanced rhythmic patterns, chord study, fingerpicking styles, musical forms, improvisation, and performing experiences. A progression of technical proficiency is expected. For all guitar classes, public recitals outside of normal class hours are considered part of the curriculum and are required. This course meets the university requirement for fine arts. This class may be repeated for credit.
The Color Guard is a performing group that is an integral part of the Marana Tiger Pride Marching Band. Open to students of all levels, this performing ensemble utilizes aspects of dance, equipment, and theatre to fully captivate and engage audiences. The ensemble meets outside of the regular school day during the Fall semester and public performances are a required part of this performing group.
