The Basic Skills program at Sewell Elementary School identifies Kindergarten learners who need additional support in order to meet grade level expectations in English Language Arts. It allows us the opportunity to adapt instruction that is tailored specifically to your child's individual learning needs and helps us create learning activities and interventions that help students progress at their own pace.
Our Kindergarten learners at Sewell Elementary School are identified for Basic Skills services through a series of criteria at various points throughout the school year. This criteria includes performance on curricular assessments, standardized assessments and teacher observation and recommendations.
If your child qualifies for Basic Skills, it simply means that they need additional support to work at or on grade level. Although we always look at our students as individuals and tailor instruction to their specific needs, the Basic Skills program at Sewell Elementary School allows us to have an academic support system in place to ensure that we remain aware of your child's needs and to work together as a collective team to support your child as they learn and grow in Kindergarten.
