Dear Parents,

Welcome to second grade!  I am very excited to be your child’s teacher this year.  I am looking forward to a great year of learning and fun!  To get us started, I have listed a few things below that may be helpful.

 Go Home Folders

Go Home folders should be brought to and from school every day.  Inside the pockets, you will find notes, completed class work, notices from the office and many other important items.  Please look through your child’s folder every evening.  Notes, papers for the office and other items that need to be sent to school may also be placed in the folder.  At school, your child will be responsible for handing in all information/notes that are in his/her folder.

 Specials

I will send home a separate sheet with our special schedule and it is available on the website.  Be sure to hang our special schedule for reference.  Students will need sneakers for P.E. and library books to return for Library.

Snack/drinks

Due to the later lunch time for second graders, I’ve found it’s a long morning without a snack.  Please send in some small, healthy snacks every day that are easy to eat.  There will not be any snacks available for students who do not bring in their own.  Please review the healthy snack information sent by Mrs. Cullari.  (No wet snacks please).  Students also need reusable water bottles that do not spill to keep a drink at their seat for the day.

Lunch

Review your child’s lunch choice the night before.  Encourage them to remember that whatever they choose in the morning at school is what they should take in the cafeteria.  Those bringing lunch should have names on lunch containers.

 Recess

Students will go outside for recess every day….weather permitting.  Please be sure they are prepared for the weather and wear safe play shoes.  Students are welcome to leave sneakers and a sweatshirt/sweater in their locker just in case if they’d like.

Extra Clothing

The temperature in the classroom can fluctuate and some students are more sensitive to cold/hot than others.  I recommend sending in a sweatshirt, sweater or jacket for your child to keep in his/her locker in case he/she gets chilly.

Birthday Treats/Invitations

Due to board policy, we are not allowed to have food items as treats.  They may not be eaten at school or sent home with the students.  Please do not send in food items for birthday treats with your child as I will have to return them.

Birthday party invitations may only be passed out in school if there is one for every child in the class or all girls/boys.

Please feel free to write me a note, email me at kspieler@mansfieldschool.com, send me a message on Class Dojo or call me at school to leave a voice message any time with questions or concerns.  I will do my best to respond promptly.  I look forward to meeting with all of you at Back to School Night!

                                                                          Thank you,
