Math

The New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Mathematics define what students should understand and be able to do in their study of mathematics. They provide students with a solid foundation for whole numbers,  addition,  subtraction,  multiplication,  division,  fractions, and decimals. The standards stress not only procedural skills but also conceptual understanding to make sure students are learning and absorbing the critical information they need to succeed at higher levels. They assist young students to build the foundation to apply more demanding math concepts and procedures successfully and move into applications. 

The Standards for Math Practice describe the problem-solving approaches and habits of mind that teachers develop in their students throughout the units of studies through mathematical instruction and planned activities.  The development of these skills is threaded throughout the mathematics curriculum all year and are characteristics of mathematically proficient students.
