5th grade students are able to come to studios during their recess time.
They are introduced to the room and materials available on their first day. From then on, they come with their own ideas and utilize any supplies in our room independently. I am there to offer guidance, answer questions, and help in any way they need. There is always a quick skill or tip given for the day. They can use that idea or continue working on their own ideas. This marking period, there are drawing, painting, and explosion book studios. Be on the lookout for a sign up sheet for next marking period...clay? origami? oil pastels?

5th Grade Students studied Etel Adnan, a Lebanese-American poet and essayist. She painted using only a palette knife. 5th grade artists were challenged to use only 3 lines in their landscapes...it was a lot harder than you think!
3rd and 4th grade artists created self-portraits inspired by Andy Warhol's work. They used special construction paper crayons on black paper.
3rd and 4th graders studied Monet's waterscapes along with a few other famous waterscapes. They discussed how images are reflected in water. They also learned how to make a "perfect, not perfect" print to show those reflections.
1st and 2nd graders studied some famous self-portraits and learned the correct proportions for drawing a face.

Kindergarten learned that art can be sculpted. They took what they knew about lines in 2 dimensional art and applied it to their very first sculptures!
Preschool and Pre Art students worked hard for 3 cycles to create these snowflake collages. They printed, painted, and stenciled their way through these collages.

Students worked with Perkins Art Center to create a mosaic for our renovated courtyard at John Hydock! Although it was primarily a second grade experience, all students had an opportunity to create a part of the mosaic and place their work in the final piece. We chose to center our work around tortoises in honor of those that make their home in our courtyard.
Preschool and Kindergarten added palm pebbles to the land and sky
1st grade made flowers, birds, and butterflies
Early finishers even got to add a few people
2nd grade designed turtle tiles based on their research
