Welcome to grade 5! This year your child will continue using the Bridges math program. This was the program adopted for K-5.
Students should know their multiplication and division facts and fact families. We'll work a lot with fractions this year and knowing those math facts will make that work much easier for them, especially as they'll need to know factors and multiples.
Homework for Math is nightly (for the most part) Monday-Thursday. Homework is usually given Monday and due on Friday. We encourage parents to work with students in planning their week so that students become responsible with organizing school and outside activities.

I encourage the students to carry their homework in their accordion folder back and forth to school and home. We will review questions students have about homework during the week before it is due on Friday.

Social Studies homework is assigned on an as-needed basis to prepare for projects, presentations, and assessments. Project work is intended to be done in school -- during class and xblock if needed. Students often choose to do additional work on SS projects during their xblock time. In addition, I'll expect students to study for quizzes and tests in Math and Social Studies.

XBlock and Power School - All subjects may require X-block attention or homework in order to be caught up with classwork. Students may also make up tests and assignments during X-block. Be sure to see comments in PowerSchool for deadlines to make up work. We encourage families to check Power School together with students to plan for make-up work and getting extra help if needed.
