Weeks of: January 5 - January 9
Language: Students will continue to use nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns and adverbs. Students will be asked to identify in sentences, use in sentences verbally as well as written sentences. Students will continue to work on using conjuctions in sentences.
This next unit has us looking at spelling patterns for long e and long a.
Amplify: Unit 5: Light and Sound
In this unit, students will be reading different selections on the science behind light and sound. Students will read about light sources, shadows, mirrors, reflections, refractions, lenses, and color. They will also be reading biographies about the inventors behind the light bulb and telephone.
Math: Standard: Relate area to operations of multiplication and division
Level 1: identify how to measure area, partition rectangle into unit squares
Level 2: find area of rectangle by using tiles
Level 3: relate area to repeated addition and multiplication, decomposs a rectanble into two smaller to find area
Writing: We are now moving into opinion (persuasive) writing. Students will be following the same model using TIDE. They will need to give their opinion- state reasons with details to back up their reasons.
Science:
Social Studies: Students will learn about significant events and figures in local and national history and compare historical time period to today. Students will be looking at how different inventions have changed over time.
