Weeks of: October 19 - 23
Language: Students have learned all lowercase letters for cursive. We are currently working our way through capital letters as well as practicing names in cursive.
This week we will be starting to review nouns, verbs, and adjectives. We will also be working on suffixes and prefixes. The spelling each week will focus on adding these to root words.
Amplify: Unit 2: Animal Classification
This unit introduces students to the science of classification. Students will learn about five groups of vertebrates, why scientists classify animals into groups, and the characteristics by which they make these determinations. The ability to classify information is an essential skill of organizing, analyzing, and understanding data. Students will develop scientific skills as they observe and practice identifying important characteristics of organisms and objects.
Math: Standard: NBT.3.1 Rounding *We are doing level 3 for this standard this week
Level 1: create an array using a repeated addition problem
Level 2: show commutative property of multiplication- write a multiplication equation to represent an array
Level 3: apply properties of multiplication to solve problems, multiply 1 digit numbers by multiples of 10
Writing:
This semester we are focusing on Narrative writing. Students will be using CSPACE as an organizer and then using this organizer to help them guide their paragraph writing. Students will be adding descriptive language along with dialogue.
So far we have written 2 collaboratives together.

This week we are continuing our standard on Government. Students will be learning about the three types of government- local, state, nation. We will be learning about who runs each of the governments and what their jobs are.
