Hello, my name is John Gloria and this is my 11th year teaching in Manor ISD. I have been with the Early College High School since the first cohort started 9 years ago. I graduated Cum Laude(with honors) with my Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of North Texas. I live in South Austin with my wife, who is a professor at Texas State, and my dog Ladybird. I turned 40 in June! Now that I am an old man my hobby is anything cars! I currently have a 1994 Ford Lightning, 1982 Ford F-150 short bed, and a 2014 Ford Focus St (as a daily driver). If you go to any car shows around Austin you might see me there! I have taught World Geography and World History from on level to Advanced Placement (WHAP). This year we are offering two courses for sophomores in social studies. Students will either take Pre-AP World History and Geography or World History AP. I am proud and honored to say that I was named Teacher of the Year for Early College in 2022. I am passionate about my craft as a teacher and love to attend conferences that further my historical content knowledge as well as my push me pedagogically. I am also currently the Social Studies Department Chair.
Welcome to World History AP! For the next two semesters, we will be taking a journey together that will take us from the Tang and Song Dynasties of China to The Green Revolution. This course is about high-level analysis and comprehension, as well as memorizing names and dates. We will be building the skills to prepare you for taking the AP test as well as/or prepare you for your Junior ACC classes US History 1301, 1302. This course will be challenging, interesting, and hopefully will help you become a better student by the time we leave for summer break.
