Reflection

What a lovely reading group, this poem was hard to find as I wanted a poem that had a simple clear meaning but also had a few challenging word choices to unpack for my reading group. The children came with a good prior knowledge of what makes a good friend and this helps with them infer what each sentence was telling them about friendship. The children could rely on what the important parts were and put these into the content of their own lives. The children noticed the simple rhyming and ending of words which created a simple mini-lesson within the whole picture lesson I was looking for. The children went on to talk about what part they found important and what part about being a friend could they improve on. This poem supported the children in creating their follow-up tasks.
