Introduction to Scholarships

The information contained in this website regarding scholarships is to be used as a resource when seeking scholarship awards. It is important to check the scholarship board and website frequently. As the year progresses the amount of scholarships available increases. Applications for the scholarships listed are available on the scholarship board.

It is absolutely necessary that these scholarships arrive at their destination on time. Allow time when observing due dates for completion of recommendations, transcripts, and mailing. SCHOLARSHIPS BEING TURNED INTO THE GUIDANCE OFFICE MUST BE SUBMITTED BY NO LATER THAN 2:30 pm.

Scholarship Board

The best source for local scholarship opportunities is the Scholarship Board.

This board is located at Franklin Academy right outside the Guidance Office
This board is updated at least weekly by the Guidance staff.
Seniors should begin to look at the board on a weekly basis beginning in September.
Continue to check the board and this site for the most up-to-date information.

North Country Community College - Essex & Franklin County Scholarships Award

High school senior planning on attending North Country Community College. Student must have an 85 (3.0) or above and be receiving an Advanced Regents Diploma. Student must submit enrollment deposit by May1st & register for classes by July 1st.

New York State Scholarships

New York State offers various scholarships based on various different criteria. Please go to www.hesc.ny.gov for more information. The Excelsior Scholarship application is open for a brief period of time please check this website frequently. Please read carefully!!!

Elks Emergency Grants

Any student who will be attending or is currently attending college. Parent must be an Elk who has a disability and cannot work or was an Elk at the time of death. Renewable scholarship. High school senior; must be a child, grandchild, great grandchild, brother or sister of a member of the American Legion Post 219, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 219, or the Sons of the American Legion Post 219. Selection based on Character (25%); leadership (25%); Americanism (25%); Community Serivce (25%).

FA senior. Must be a child of members of the American Legion family. Character, leadership, Americanism, Community Service (15%). Financial need & academics (20%). Student should be entering the business field.

High School Seniors pursuing post-secondary education in Agriculture Technology such as Ag Mechanics, Ag Refrigeration, Ag Plumbing and HVAC, Ag Welding, and Ag Machine Operation.

This scholarship will be awarded to a college or technical school-bound special education student with an active IEP or 504 Plan

This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has demonstrated an inspired imagination and creative aesthetic in his or her school career, and who is seeking an opportunity to attend college.

Franklin Academy Trustees' Scholarships

High school senior. One completed application allows a student to be considered for over sixty scholarships. High grades and the strength of academic program is weighted heavily. Application is on the scholarship board or download it from the Franklin Academy Guidance Office Scholarship webpage.

High school senior attending an accredited degree program in Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, or Construction Management at college or university. Can be a 2 year or 4 year program. Must have a 3.0 GPA. Application is on the scholarship board or download it online at the link below.

CSEA Region 5 Continuing Education Scholarship

Applicants must be graduating high school seniors, who will be continuing their education at an accredited college or trade school, and are the child/legal dependent or grandchild of a CSEA Region 5 member in good standing or a CSEA Region 5 Staff member. Applications are now available at www.cseany.org/r5

The application deadline is April 12, 2024. A minimum of 4 winners will be selected. Hard copies of the application can be found on the scholarship board outside of the counseling office. Please contact your counselor with any questions!

Zonta Club of the Adirondacks Scholarship Opportunities

Applicants must be a student in the junior or senior year of high school. The winner of each of these scholarships at the local level will be eligible to apply for considerably larger scholarship at the district and perhaps the international level.

Both copies of the applications may be found on the Zonta District website www.zontadistrict2.org and on our Counseling Google Classroom. Hard copies of the application can be found on the scholarship board outside of the counseling office. Please contact your counselor with any questions!

Adirondack Regional FCU Donald DeVirgeles Memorial Scholarship

High school senior accepted to a two or four year college. Must have at least a 2.7 GPA. Does not have to be a member of Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union to apply. In 2024 they will grant 10 scholarships for high school seniors from Clinton, Essex, Franklin, or St. Lawrence counties who have been accepted to a 2- or 4-year school. Two students will receive a $1,000 scholarship, while eight will receive $500 scholarships. The application will be due on April 24th, 2024. RENY Retired Educators of New York. Northern Zone

Two $400 scholarships will be awarded by the Northern Zone of RENY (formerly NYSRTA) —one to a St. Lawrence County student, the Ross Hudson Memorial, and one to a Franklin County student, the Janet Dana Memorial. Who: Any high school senior pursuing a career in the teaching profession is eligible. When: You must submit your completed application to the address below by May 17, 2024. Malone Rotary Club Scholarship Program

The Malone Rotary Club Scholarship Program offers a $1,000 college scholarship to each of three qualified high school seniors graduating in 2024 who will be entering their first year of college in the Fall of 2024. There will also be a $500.00 scholarship in honor of J. Brian McKee and another scholarship of $2000 will be a music scholarship in honor of Vincent Tutino.

To qualify, students must:

-Have an excellent record of service in the community and/or extracurricular activities.

-Graduate high school in June 2024 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (equivalent of a B average).

Kiwanis Scholarship

Mission Statement: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. The application packet submission deadline is Friday, April 19th, 2024. Please include an unofficial transcript, completed application form and essay in the application packet. Turn in your completed application packet to the Guidance Office. You can find the application on our scholarship board and on the Counseling Google Classroom. SeaComm Federal Credit Union Shirley J. Eagles Memorial Scholarship

SeaComm Federal Credit Union will once again be awarding scholarship funds to TEN area college bound students from the communities they serve! This year, ten $1,000 awards in memory of long-time employee Shirley J. Eagles will be awarded to deserving students from their charter area (St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis, Franklin, Essex, and Clinton Counties in NY and Chittenden County, VT). Qualifications for applying include being a college bound senior with a grade point average of 85 or above, and being a member (or son/daughter/legal ward) of a member of SeaComm Federal Credit Union. As of Friday, March 1st, the application will also be available on the Credit Union website at www.seacomm.org. Sons of American Legion Scholarship

1. This application must be completed in full in order to be considered for the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Scholarship / Financial Award. All information must be typed or neatly printed and must be submitted to the guidance office by April 19, 2024.

2. You must be a graduating high-school senior planning to enter college, university, or an accredited trade school beginning in the upcoming fall semester on a full-time basis.

3. The SAL Scholarship Committee in Malone will review all applications and make awards to those students who show the most promise, a desire to succeed, and a commitment to making a positive contribution to others.
