This wonderful three-bedroom stone townhouse is located on a village square at the top of Puig del Mas with wonderful views over the town to the azure Mediterranean Sea. The house dates from the eighteenth century and was the granary of a local mill.
The house has been completely modernized inside and has an upside-down design with a large light-filled living area on the top floor. Its floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a picturesque village square with glorious views beyond to the vineyards and the sea.
There is a large master bedroom on the ground floor, with ensuite shower room, and a further two bedrooms on the middle floor along with a good-sized family bathroom.
Puig del Mas is the original part of Banyuls-sur-Mer, built a mile inland to discourage North African raiders arriving by sea. It is a short 15-minute walk down to the bustling seaside part of Banyuls-sur-Mer with its numerous beachside restaurants and bars.
The town is nestled between the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees, with easy rail links to Barcelona and Paris. Perpignan International airport is just under an hour’s drive to the north and Girona Airport a 90-minute drive to the south.
The surrounding countryside is spectacular, the road from the town following the contours of the steep vine-covered hills with the sea ever present. The vines provide the grapes for the Banyuls (AOC) wine, a delicious sweet dessert wine which is famous throughout France.
