Google Jamboard is an online digital white board. By creating a Jamboard you and students can have a similar experience in class, as if students were using the white board in the front of the room to demo an idea or concept.
There is an important distinction to make however to avoid confusion and misunderstanding of Jamboard features. Jamboard is also the name of a Google Interactive Board (like the ones on wheels in our schools.) This interactive board uses the App version of Jamboard. The version available to staff, is the web version found at jamboard.google.com. The web and app version of Jamboard have different features: most notably, the web version does not allow you to insert documents from drive (this confused some staff) and you cannot start a Google Meet FROM inside Jamboard.
Who is it for?
Everyone has access to Jamboard.
Use this tool if you want to:
provide all of your students the ability to collaborate and interact in a white board space at the same time.
provide students an opportunity to demonstrate knowledge, explain concepts, or brainstorm using a collaborative space
allow students and you to integrate drawing/ graphing easily using your mouse as a finger (or touch screen)
save your white boards to your drive, share them with students, and link them in google classroom for later reference.
assign a group of students a dedicated space to document their thinking
