MALDEN CATHOLIC NAMES BRETT SEGALA
AS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR COACH
Malden, MA — April 14, 2025 – Malden Catholic is excited to announce the hiring of Brett Segala as the new Offensive Coordinator for the Lancers Football Program.
Segala brings an extensive background in both playing and coaching football, combined with a passion for education and player development. He most recently served as Head Varsity Football Coach at Cortland High School (NY), where he helped reshape the program by installing new offensive and defensive systems, spearheading a recruitment and academic assistance program, and implementing a strength & conditioning program centered on athlete growth and injury prevention. Under his leadership, the program saw 11 All-League selections in 2023 and 2024, and eight players went on to play at the collegiate level with much success on the field.
Before entering coaching, Segala himself had a school record-breaking career as a quarterback at SUNY Cortland. In just 26 games (24 as a starter), he became the Red Dragons’ all-time leader in:
Passing Yards (6,518)
Completions (467)
Touchdown Passes (59)
300-yard Passing Games (9)
He also ranks second in school history with 6,847 career total offensive yards. In 2018, he set the Cortland regular-season record with 2,671 passing yards, followed by 2,716 yards and 22 touchdowns in 11 games during the 2019 season. He began his collegiate career at Division II Seton Hill University before transferring to Cortland.
A native of Webster, New York, Segala is a 2015 graduate of Webster Schroeder High School, where he earned first team all-county and All-Greater Rochester honors as a senior quarterback. He was also a three-year letter winner in baseball.
Segala also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in K-12 Physical Education from SUNY Cortland and is certified to teach physical education in New York, with a Massachusetts certification in progress. He has taught PE across all grade levels and has coached at both the high school and collegiate levels, including stints as Offensive Coordinator at Whitney Point Central and Assistant Coach at SUNY Cortland.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Segala to the Malden Catholic community,” said William Raycraft, Malden Catholic’s Athletic Director. “His experience as a record-setting collegiate athlete, his proven leadership as a head coach, and his dedication to student-athlete development make him a tremendous asset to our football program.”
Coach Segala is eager to get to work and bring his energy, knowledge, and leadership to the Lancers as they prepare for the upcoming 2025 season. Said Coach Segala “I am beyond excited to join the Malden Catholic Football Program as the new Offensive Coordinator. An opportunity I don’t take lightly, and I look forward to getting to meet and work with all the players, coaches, families and community! Go Lancers!”
