The above data is originally from Students Performance Dataset .This dataset contains comprehensive information on 2,392 high school students, detailing their demographics, study habits, parental involvement and academic performance.

The dataset has Student ID, which is the case and 5 categorical variables:-

Gender: categorical variable - measured in nominal scale as there is no ordering possible
Ethnicity: categorical variable - measured in nominal scale as there is no ordering possible
Parental Education: categorical variable - measured in ordinal scale since the level of education can be ordered
Tutoring: categorical variable - measured in nominal scale as there is no ordering possible
Parental guidance: categorical variable - measured in ordinal scale since the level of involvement can be ordered

It has 4 Numerical variables as follows:-

Age: numerical variable measured in ratio scale as Discrete variable because we record only the completed years.
Study Time: numerical variable measured in ratio scale as continues variable since it could vary continuously.
Absences: numerical variable measured in ratio scale (zero is allowed ) as Discrete variable, number of days will be integer.
GPA : numerical variable measured in ratio scale as continues variable since it could vary continuously.

The purpose of this analysis is to get a feel of what affects the GPA.

Before we analyze the data, we need to ascertain that the data represents the population. Let us check that it has a fair share of male & female students & also most dominant ethnic groups are present in similar ratio of the last known census of the State.

1.Gender:

This bar chart shows that the number of male (1170) and female (1221) don't differ much to show any bias in the representation

2.Ethnicity:

This pie chart shows that the different ethnic communities of the population are represented proportionately.

3.Parental Education:

This pie chart shows the different background of parents and their percentage of the sample. The effect of this on GPA is shown below.

4.Tutoring:

This pie chart shows that the different ethnic communities of the population are represented proportionately. The effect of tutoring on GPA is available further down.

5. Parental guidance:

This bar chart shows that the different degrees of parental guidance and the number of parents involved. The effect of their involvement in the GPA is given below

6.Age:

This pie chart shows the share of different age group of students. The average GPA by age group wise is given below.

7. Study Time ( Weekly):

This bar chart shows how many students spent how many hours studying.

8.Absense Pattern:

This pie chart shows that the different ethnic communities of the population are represented proportionately.

9. GPA Vs Number of students:

This histogram shows that the frequency distribution of GPA. Mean is 1.90 and mode is 1.75. Median is 1.89.Standard deviation is 0.91.

10. Significance of Study Time:

This scatter diagram shows the relation between Study Time (Weekly) to average GPA of students who studied that much time . As expected there is a positive correlation ( correlation coefficient : 0.92)

11. Effect of Parental guidance:

This scatter diagram shows the relation between degree of parental guidance to average GPA of students who received such guidance . As expected there is a positive correlation ( correlation coefficient : 0.99)

12. Absences:

This scatter diagram shows the relation between Absences to average GPA of students who were absent that much time . As expected there is a strong negative correlation ( correlation coefficient : -0.99)

13. Tutoring:

This bar chart shows the effect of Tutoring to average GPA of students . As expected there is a positive correlation ( correlation coefficient : 0.99)

14. Age

This bar chart shows what percentage( of a particular age group) of students got the given GPA .

20% of the 18-year age group mode is 2.5 GPA followed by the 16-year group at 2 GPA.

The 15-year group has the highest standard deviation (wide spread).

15. Ethnicity:

This bar chart gives the frequency distribution of students of a particular ethnic group over the average GPA .

Based on mode, we can say that descending order of most diligent students are : Others, Asian, African-American followed by Caucasian.
