What is KidWind?

The KidWind Challenge is the ultimate wind energy learning experience for students. During the school year 2018-2019, Makersmiths sponsored a Middle School and a High School team for the purpose of exploring wind energy through the hands-on, investigative, and exciting KidWind Challenge!

Goals:

  • Discover the promise and limitations of wind energy technology
  • Design, build, and test a functional creative wind turbine
  • Compete with peers in a supportive environment

This site was designed to establish communication and collaboration between KidWind coaches and Middle School KidWind team members and their families. Each week session pages were added to this site to prepare team members for workshop activities and to serve as content review for the Northern Virginia challenge held on March 15, 2019 at Shenandoah University. At this competition, participants were tested on their knowledge of wind turbines, wind energy and conservation topics. The team completed a knowledge quiz, participated in a problem-solving instant challenge, and met with judges to explain how they worked together to create their wind turbine.
