This is my fiftieth year of teaching. After earning a BSEd in Elementary Education at George Mason University, I began my K12 teaching career in 1974 as a special education teacher in Prince Georges, Maryland. Then I transferred to Fairfax County, VA, in 1979. As a K12 special education teacher, I earned my MSEd in Special Education in 1978 from the University of Maryland and completed a Ph.D. in Special Education in 1994 at George Mason University. 

In 2005, I retired from K12 education to transition to higher education to become a teacher educator, first at Hood College and then at Shenandoah University. In 2010, I founded the MSE-Special Education program and headed that program at Shenandoah University until I retired from full-time teaching in 2017.  I am now teaching part-time as an associate professor (adjunct) at Shenandoah University, teaching curriculum and instruction classes as an adjunct professor.  

I am also a volunteer for a non-profit maker space called Makersmiths in Loudoun County, Virginia. I help schedule and teach classes at the Leesburg location, write articles for the organization's newsletter, and coach youth on KidWind teams.
