The Department strongly believes that each student possesses the potentiality to create innovative thoughts in mathematical research. This needs serious motivation ad inquisitiveness. To create positive innovation and to enthuse the students for pursuing research works classes are arranged in the class-routine to provide project work on any subject of choice under the supervision and guidance of some teachers. They are also asked to participate into similar programs in and outside the university.

News Letter Publication
Newsletter is published yearly from the department publishing message on departmental activities, canvassing news involving success records of the teachers and students, Puzzle-game for the students, popular articles from both the teachers and students, recreational mathematics, stories of mathematical legends etc. A copy of the first copy of the Newsletter published in January, 2022 at the Kolkata Book fair-2022.

Opening Actuarial Science
Actuarial Science use mathematical, statistical, financial and economic theory to solve real business problems, typically involving risk, uncertainty and the financial impact of undesirable events. There is an increasing demand for actuaries in both the private and public sectors, working within a variety of areas such as Life Insurance, General Insurance, Pensions, Banking, Investment and Asset Management, Consultancy, Manufacturing and Transport
Actuarial Science is a professional course of studies based on mathematics, probability, statistics, economics and business management. The study demands extensive application of computer programming. An actuary is supposed to get well-conversant with the current affairs and activities and at the same time must be aware of social and political waves and upheavals.
The areas of engagement are bank sectors, insurance companies and many other organizations where an arbitrarily selected population is treated. Suchorganizations have statutory obligations to employ Actuaries to aid in the identification, assessment and evaluations of risks in the business, as well as other regulatory tasks such as reporting and valuations.
Although the actuarial field provides one of the most esteemed professional career paths, there are only a few institutions in India where Actuarial Science is taught as a self-designed course of studies. In most of the institutes, the course is offered to supplement knowledge background for Business professionals and not as a fully-designed course-curriculum.
The most extensive teaching-learning on Actuarial Science is practiced in the UK under the guidelines of Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
Through this project, it is proposed to initiate a new school of academia in the name and style as „MAKAUT ACTUARY FOUNDATION‟ to offer Bachelor and Master‟s degree in Actuarial Science to create high-esteemed business professionals in collaboration with Institute of Actuaries of India [IAI] and with academic and professional support from the Institute and Faculty of Actuary, UK [IFoA] and Institute of Actuaries India [IAI].
A project proposal has been framed up and was produced to the university authority. On 20. 07.2022 Hon‟ble Vice-Chancellor approved the proposal on the basis of recommendation from the Registrar, MAKAUT. He also directed his good office to initiate the program in the academic session-2023-24.
Strength-Weakness-Opportunity-& Challenges[SWOC]
Strength
The infrastructural attributes of the university can easily claim its exclusive pattern. The class-rooms are well-equipped and extremely techno-versed. Each class room is structured for running proper learning management system.
There is a galaxy of teachers to run the academia. Each of them is highly motivated and possess real passion for education. A series of awards, prizes and appreciations has been received by many of them from National/International Government and private organizational levels of reputation. This causes positive impetuous and inspiration that flowers the entire teaching-learning.
Series of books/ research papers/ articles are published every year that shows how the authority has been developed with the department. We provide very supportive lesson materials with exhaustive question bank on each topic of discussion.
The department took the task of teaching essential software and programming languages like MATLAB, Python etc. to the students so that they can easily compete with the demand of the day and can easily establish themselves in the employment zone.
Even during the pandemic period, the activities continued by the department with similar potentiality and efficacy. The inexactitudes in on-line teaching-learning were eradicated by the cohesion and affinity between the teachers and students.
The teachers are well-expertise and conversant with the modern technologies. Each teacher applies their expertise with computer-oriented teaching-learning. The study materials prepared for the students can easily demand appreciation from the academic world and definitely acceptable to the students.
Webinars are arranged every week for which the university has already put it mark in Ginny‟s book of record. This helps the students and teachers as well for enhancing the knowledge and skills.
The research activity of the department has already stepped into the international threshold of mathematics. Dr. Hiranmay Mondal, Head of the department has guided Ph.D. students abroad that added a new feather to the cap.
Project activities of the students of M.Sc. in applied mathematics have earned appreciation beyond the university.
Weakness
The location of the university is not well-connected with the main centers causing severe hindrance for daily commutations.
There is a dearth of sufficient residential support to both the students and the teachers.
The locational hazard creates lot of hindrance for new enrolment of the students.
The exposure of the best of the university is still unreached to many students from different community.
The department is to cater a big number of academic programs. This is why the teachers are to take more load than the usual norm. This definitely creates an unfortunate taxation that causes disturbance in the teaching-learning.
Almost all the teachers are employed either on the contractual basis or as visiting lecturers. This inducts certain sense of insecurity about the employability of the teachers.
The sitting arrangements and related amenities provided to the teachers is inadequate and not at all sufficient.

The biggest opportunity of the institute is to reach the research attainment as much as one can go.
There are ample avenues open to the students, researchers and the teachers for exposing their efficacies and expertise.
The department has great scopes for introducing new courses like Actuarial science where mathematical studies would be the key factors of development.
There are great scopes for enhancing research culture in collaboration with reputed academic institutions in and abroad.
Effective avenues can be ventured for increasing industrial consultancy on large-scale profitability.
Challenges
Because of the general apathetic views of the young learners towards selection of mathematics as the core course of studies, the biggest challenge that the department is facing is its sustainability.
The poor number in the students-enrollment is definitely to be increased by exposing the benefits of studying mathematics.
The credentials of the departments are to be properly advertised and advocated to reach bigger community of students.
The ERP system already in force must be fully utilized for creating paperless academic activities.
It is absolutely necessary to create pace with the very speedy and dynamic changes in teaching-learning
Lastly and not the least it is necessary to place the department to global standard of glory.
