1. Zoom online classes

How do the online classes work?

Our online classes have a videoconferencing format in which the students can interact between themselves and with the teacher in a private, respectful and safe environment. We use the Zoom platform for all of our classes.

How many students are there per class?

Our online classes have a maximum of 8-10 students per class interacting with one teacher.

What do I have to do after I register for a class?

After you are registered for a class, you will receive an email with specific information on your class, and a link which allows you to access your class for the entire session. Please read the email carefully and wait for the day your class starts.

How can I have access to my Zoom class?

Before your class starts we will send you an email with a link to a Zoom meeting. This link will work for every class you have during the whole session (6 weeks). To learn how to join watch the first video in the onboarding videos section.

What do I need to join the class?

You will need to have access to a laptop or computer, we strongly discourage the use of a tablet or a cell phone due to technical problems observed in the past session. You will also need access to an internet connection, a camera, a microphone and speakers (this should be all included if you are using a laptop).

2. Technical issues

What do I do if I can't join my class?

If you can't join the class, you should check the following:

  • Your internet connection is working
  • You clicked in the link we sent you and downloaded the Zoom app

I'm in the class but nobody can see me or hear me, why?

You may have your microphone and camera disabled, do the following:

  • Go to the menu at the bottom of the Zoom window , you will see an icon of a microphone and to the right there is a camera icon. You should click on them once and that would enable the option.
  • If the problem continues, go to the arrow to the side of these two icons and confirm that you have selected the correct microphone or camera, you might have more than one connected to your computer and it doesn't recognize the one you are trying to use.

I have a slow connection or I'm not longer in the class, what do I do?

You may be experiencing an internet failure, check the following:

  • You still have access to the internet from your computer. If not, check with your provider.
  • Try to have only the Zoom app open, sometimes when you have multiples apps open that can slow your connection.
  • Click on the link again and you should be able to rejoin the class.
  • If you can, try to access from a different computer or device.

3. General questions

Do I have to communicate an absence to my class?

Our teachers keep track of the attendance for every class but the classes are not mandatory, that means you don't need to justify your absences. It's always preferable that you let your teacher know in advance if you know you will be absent or talk to them during the next class.

Is there a final test at the end of the session?

Yes, you will have a written and an oral test the last day of class which will allow you to pass to the next level if you would like to continue.

Can I get a certificate when I finish the course?

Yes, you can ask for a certificate that shows the course you took, the dates of the session, the duration of it and the amount of hours you completed. If you need a certificate please ask for one in the Forms and documents section.

If I can't continue the course, what can I do?

You can ask for a credit or a refund at any point during the session. However, there is a policy that applies according to the date of the request. Please check our policy in the forms and documents section.

Are these courses part of the Francisation program?

No, we are a community center that offers language classes. We are not part of the government program.
