About Us
Cross Country and Track and Field at Maine West are non-cut sports. All athletes that try out and are academically eligible will make the team. Athletes are expected to attend practice on a daily basis and to work hard to become a better athlete.
All athletes are encouraged to join! In Cross Country, we train by running miles and blend in speed and tempo work regularly throughout the season. Track and Field is a fab opportunity for athletes of all builds. Events, like shot put and discus, are a great fit for athletes with a large frame. Traditional running events, ranging in distance from 100 meters (55 meters indoors) - 2 miles, in addition to jumps and hurdles, create opportunities for all athletes.
All athletes must sign up in the Snap Management platform, have a current physical exam on file, and participate in a concussion impact test. Physicals are good for one calendar year.
The Cross Country and Track and Field calendars span all seasons. Appropriate gear is essential. We train outside during all months and in all weather, as long as conditions are safe. Cold weather demands multiple layers, stocking hats, and gloves. Warm weather warrants breathable clothing, hydration, and sunscreen.
