Group Interpretation (GI) is a 30 minute competitive group play. We don’t use props, or costumes in a traditional sense. We also have a limited performance space and a standardized set that consists of 16 wooden pieces that we are free to use in creative ways. Group Interp is all about how you can tell a story as a full group while the performance or character were meant to be as one.
No not at all! If you have any experience in team based activity, you're already a head of the game. This is a great opportunity to improve your public speaking skills, build your confidence and have fun with a team while competing at the IHSA level.
Yes, much like a play, you will have lines to memorize and you must be fully memorized for the production at Sectionals.
All participants must attend the majority of rehearsals. It will be important to know whether you are involved in any other activities that might conflict. Rehearsals are also dependent of availability of the cast. If you are in another activity, it’s important to tell me before you commit so we can look at what’s possible regarding rehearsal and performances.
Not Necessarily. You will have a uniformed look. Students and families will be responsible for purchasing at least one of the uniformed items, such as the shirt. Everyone will wear the same outfit and will be presented as an ensemble, so it’s important to create a level of uniformity among the group, so we do this through the clothing we wear. If you cannot purchase any of the items, please let me know so we can discuss it.
