All players will BE ON TIME to practice everyday.
An attitude of “come early” and “leave late” is expected.
Treat others as you want to be treated.
Players are responsible in helping set up practices and matches
No sitting around talking or taking your time (urgency)
Same people should not be doing same things all the time (everyone must contribute)
Everyone helps set up and clean up
Players will treat all equipment/uniforms with care
Keep shed neat and orderly (All balls and equipment must be put back properly)
Always jog on and off courts during practice (no walking or sitting around)
Everyone should be shagging constantly throughout practice; we should not have to waste practice time to do this
If a player will be late to a practice, the player must contact their coach PRIOR to practice. If arriving late to practice, the player must see a coach immediately.
Players will clean up after themselves.
An unexcused absence is a player missing practice for whatever reason and not contacting a coach ahead of time. In cases of emergencies when contact is not made, we will deal with those on a case by case basis.
Unexcused absences will not be tolerated. After 2 unexcused absences, the player will be subject to dismissal from the team.
Missing a practice excused will be handled on a case by case basis (Don't Miss Practice) Unexcused absences from practice will result in missing the next match entirely.
Whether away or home, players should be dressed accordingly to what the team agreed on.
Players will arrive on time for the bus for away matches and come home with the team unless other arrangements are necessary.
Players will arrive on time to our courts for home matches to properly warm-up and prepare for the match
PLAYING (ON THE COURT)
Same warm-ups worn and same court apparel
Talk to your team only (never parents, friends, officials)
Eye contact with whoever is talking before, in between and at the end of matches
SPECTATING (IN THE STANDS)
Stay for entire matches
Enter with your team, leave ONLY with your team
Sit together as a team
Cheer with respect and sportsmanship
Match play will NOT always be equal. Players that are deserving of a spot will play.
PLAYERS should speak to their coaches about what they have to do in order to earn a playing spot.
Playing spot and coaching will not be discussed with parents.
Players other than your own, will not be discussed with the coaching staff.
24 hour rule: Parents, please wait 24 hours before contacting a coach about concerns you may have. Immediately after a match is not the appropriate time to engage in a discussion with a coach.
Players are expected to remain academically eligible.
If players are not eligible, they will be required to email their teachers, coaches, and parents on the same email thread asking what they can do to improve their grades.
Eligibility is checked weekly each Thursday (may be affected by holidays)
Students with near failing or failing grades are listed by course.
Students passing fewer than five academic subjects (including Physical Education and Driver Education) on a weekly basis or during the previous semester are listed as ineligible.
Students are ineligible to play until they are passing five or more academic subjects.
Near failing students may participate in the sport or competitive activity as long as they are passing the requisite number of courses.
Players are highly encouraged to participate in other competitive sports at Maine West High School.
Players are expected to work out WITH THEIR TEAMMATES, if they are not competing with another Maine West athletic team during that season.
Players will be required to complete a volunteer experience during the Tennis season. The Tennis program will offer an opportunity to do so.
All players will be required to participate in program fundraisers. Fundraising will directly impacts each player in the program.
Athletes who have an injury should help set up nets first and then report to trainer if necessary
If you are injured, players will still be engaged in practices and in games and will be given other responsibilities to contribute to the betterment of the team.
All decisions regarding physical availability for practice will be determined by our training staff. These decisions made by the staff are final.
Support your child in a positive way; you are the most influential person
Constantly use positive encouragement with your sons
Please try to attend as many matches as possible
Communication with coaches- email or call to set up a meeting
Review the schedule and try to avoid any conflicts during season. Give coaches as much notice as possible about schedule conflicts
