VoiceThread Student Guide

VoiceThread is a web-based application that allows you to create narrated presentations and have audio discussions.

VoiceThread is available both as a website and as a mobile app through iTunes or Google Play.

VoiceThread Account Set-up

Visit voicethread.com/register to set up an account. Be sure to use your Maine.edu email address because your Blackboard and VoiceThread email addresses need to be the same.

If you set up a free account, you can create up to 5 presentations; however, if your instructor has provided you with a link to a VoiceThread group for your class or a link to join their VoiceThread license, you'll have a basic account, which allows you to create up to 200 presentations.

NOTE: If you have a pre-exisiting VoiceThread account under an email address other than your Maine.edu one, don't use it to join a class group or instructor license. Instead, register for a new VoiceThread account with your Maine.edu email address.

Help & Support

Get help from VoiceThread

VoiceThread has a really helpful Support site that provides tutorials on using both its website and mobile apps.

Get help at USM

The Learning Commons Technology Assistants can help you learn any technologies used in your classes, and they're available to meet online or in person at both the Portland and LAC campus libraries.

To meet with a Technology Assistant, visit the Schedule a Tutoring Appointment page.

NOTE: The Technology Support Center (a.k.a. Help Desk) don't provide support for VoiceThread. However, if you experience issues you can request help directly from VoiceThread by emailing pro-support@voicethread.com.

Privacy

Manage the privacy of your VoiceThread presentations

By default, all VoiceThread presentations are completely private. In order to share one you've created with your instructor and/or other students, you'll need to either share it with your class group or change your presentation's sharing settings.

Check out VoiceThread's guides for sharing [website or mobile app version] for more information.

Accessibility

VoiceThread offers a version called "Universal" that's designed for people who use a screen reader to access content on the web. It’s a version of VoiceThread designed to be heard rather than seen. VoiceThread Universal can be set as your default method of interacting with VoiceThread conversations.

Full information about Universal and VoiceThread's other accessibility features is available in its Accessibility guide [website or mobile app version].
