Unit 1: Place Value, Rounding, Addition, and Subtraction

This unit focuses a great deal of attention on place values being 10 times as large as the one below it. We also learn about rounding up and down from place values.

Some activities to try:

  • Round price tags to dollar amounts at the grocery store.

  • Practice multiplying single digit numbers by 10.

  • Practice basic addition facts.

Unit 3: Multi-Digit Multiplication and Division

This is one of our biggest concepts in fourth grade!

Some activities to try:

  • Cook something that has a cook time based on weight.

  • Practice basic multiplication facts.

  • Multiply to find area of a garden/table/room/etc.

  • Determine how much paint it would take to cover a wall, or flooring to cover a room.

Unit 4: Angle Measure and Plane Figures

This is a very fun geometry unit! We will explore the characteristics of shapes and angles and practice sorting them based on the characteristics.

Unit 5: Fraction Equivalence, Ordering, and Operations

During this unit we explore the values of different fractions, and practice multiplying fractions by whole numbers.

Some activities to try:

  • Doubling a recipe

  • Practice cutting something into different fractions, practice with both rectangular and circular shapes.

Unit 6: Decimal Fractions

This unit is designed to build off unit 5. We will explore fractions that are equal to decimals.

  • Practice turning coin values into fractions. (1 quarter = 1/4 of a dollar).

  • Add dollar and cent amounts.

Unit 7: Exploring Measurement with Multiplication

Unit 2: Unit Conversions and Problem Solving with Metric Measurements

In this unit we work on converting milliliters (mL) to Liters (L), centimeters (cm) to meters (m) to kilometers (km), miligrams (mg) to grams (g) to kilograms (kg).

Some activities to try:

  • Practice looking at objects and identifying which unit would be best for measuring.

  • Cook or bake with a recipe written in metric units.

  • Go for a walk, and convert smaller units into larger, or estimate how far you've walked based on how many steps were taken.
