My goal as a tutor is to make the Writing Center an approachable space where students feel comfortable sharing and expanding their work. To do this, I’d like to eliminate the idea that a Writing Center is a “grammar fix-it shop”. A Writing Center is a place to create and collaborate, not somewhere with an implicit hierarchy around writing. I aim to minimize this idea of a hierarchy by creating personal relationships with my tutees and making them feel willing to openly share their writing, and come back on their own accord.
