The pH level is used to identify if the blood is acidic or alkalotic based on the hydrogen (H+) ion concentration. A normal pH level is 7.35 to 7.45. If the pH is less than 7.35, the blood is considered acidotic. Acidotic blood means there is a higher concentration of H+ ions in the bloodstream. If the pH is greater than 7.45, the blood is considered alkalotic. Alkalotic blood means there is less concentration of H+ ions in the bloodstream.
