Outstanding Student
Outstanding Capstone
Iris Michaud
In every class Iris completed in the Tourism and Hospitality Major at USM, her deep care of the material and strong work ethic shown through. In Tourism Entrepreneurship she created a Vegan Foodie Tour and the quality research, details, and thoughtfulness contributed to an excellent final business plan. Likewise, her tourism development plan for Windham, Maine completed in her TAH 241 class indicated an ability to find opportunities in unique places. Finally, during Iris' capstone, acting as a research assistant, she continually provided insights and analysis on engaged learning research in USM TAH worthy of being included in her mentor's project on the development of tourism education in Greenland. This dedication to academic achievement and applying it to the real world will serve her well as she continues on to graduate school.
Celia ouellette
After working at the High Roller Lobster Company for years, Celia decided to do her capstone there in order to develop a deeper understanding of restaurant management. Throughout the semester she worked closely with the Front of House manager, the bar and kitchen managers, and the owners to grow skills in administering the restaurant and catering service. In particular she worked to perfect her marketing skills, developing an eye for how to set up the perfect food photograph for social media. She also worked extra time behind the scenes getting the catering operation organized for the summer season. Due to her hard work, she was offered a promotion and full-time job at High Roller Lobster Company as Assistant Catering Manager upon graduation. Congratulations to Celia for demonstrating how dedication to taking your education to the next level is rewarded.

The best part about my time at USM was really getting to know my professors. Due to our small class sizes I felt that I was able to gain and maintain a personal relationship with all of my professors. This definitely made my university experience more enjoyable. I am so thankful to have had such wonderful professors.
