As a tutor, I believe that it is important to approach all tutorials differently as no two tutees are the same. I maintain that the tutorial is a safe space for all to express their creativity and ideas through creating a positive relationship with their writing beyond the tutorial.
Writing is not an exclusionary act and all individuals should feel confident in their capabilities as a writer. It is my goal as a tutor to encourage this positive outlook on the writing process.
I also draw my tutoring philosophy in part from Raymond Tang's TEDTalk (shown right) and the “H2O” model that Tang discusses in his talk. Tang offers a philosophy of living that I feel directly applies to a common tutoring philosophy that asks students and tutors to let go of what they can’t control, and allow creative freedom in the places they can.
