Come learn about a brief history of disability services in higher education and a shifting landscape toward more universal and inclusive practices. We will also share some of our observations about the impact of the sudden shift to online learning for students with disabilities.

COVID-19 has sent most of our students online for their classes. It has never been more important for educators to have an awareness of each student's individual abilities, background and needs. But how can we adjust the way we teach to meet this overwhelming complexity? Universal Design for Learning is a framework designed to meet this exact challenge based on scientific insight into how humans learn" (CAST, 2018). In this session presenters will introduce faculty to the core concepts of Universal Design and will share specific ways to apply it when developing and implementing curriculum.

Social media usage has increased during COVID. Come learn how to make your social media accounts accessible to all users. Presenters from the University of Maine Student Accessibility Services will be providing resources and examples of accessible social media throughout the presentation. Attendees are also encouraged to bring examples of their own social media posting for questions or review by the presenters.
