Start-Up Grant

Who is eligible to apply?


Individuals who are interested in starting a licensed child care business or become licensed with the Child Care Licensing Division (CCLD). 

Start-Up is defined as:



Never owned a child care business

Reopening a child care business


*Please note that school districts, Head Starts, and other Federal/State-funded programs are not eligible

*Recorded RA/SA/PS are not eligible unless they move towards licensing  

Start-Up Funding Amount 



The amount of funding available for programs depends on the program's individual needs and how it will increase the supply of child care.


Start-up registered and certified child care programs can apply for up to $15,000 

Start-up center-based programs can apply for up to $45,000

Grant Phases

Applicants will progress through the following phases as they participate in the Start-Up and Expansion Grant. 

Applicants likely have local support from their CCR&R, Early Learning Hub, Inclusive Partners, or licensing staff, and the Start-Up and Expansion Team is also available to support applicants at any point in time.
