Who is eligible to apply?
Programs who are currently providing care that are interested in expanding their current child care capacity under the Child Care Licensing Division (CCLD)
Expansion is defined as:
Individuals who currently own a child care business and want to:
Expand their capacity
• Registered Family
Example: Program currently caring for just preschool age and under but want to expand to include caring for up to four additional school-aged children or plan to apply to become a certified family program
• Certified Family
Example: Program currently caring for 12 children but plan to expand space to increase capacity based on available square footage and increased staffing
• Certified Center
Example: Programs seeking to increase child care capacity by opening or reopening a classroom, or increase current capacity to care for additional children based on available square footage and increased staffing
• Recorded Programs (RA/PS/SA) that are working towards getting licensed with CCLD
• Unlicensed Centers that are working towards getting licensed with CCLD
• License Exempt Homes that are working towards getting licensed with CCLD
Certified Centers opening a new location
Begin full-day/full-year care more than six hours a day - full year child care services
*Please note that school districts, Head Starts, and other Federal/State-funded programs are not eligible.
*Recorded RA/SA/PS are not eligible unless they move towards licensing
Expansion Funding Amount
The amount of funding available for programs depends on the program's individual needs and how it will increase the supply of child care.
• Expansion registered and certified child care programs can apply for up to $15,000
• Expansion center-based programs can apply for up to $45,000
Existing programs that are expanding their program may not qualify for the total amount and will have to submit a detailed budget to justify the request along with answering additional questions.

The application will be open on February 19, 2024 and must be received or postmarked by March 22, 2024.
Priority Population for this funding
• Rural communities
• Communities of color
• Programs serving languages other than English
Grant Phases
Applicants will progress through the following phases as they participate in the Start-Up and Expansion Grant.
Applicants likely have local support from their CCR&R, Early Learning Hub, Inclusive Partners, or licensing staff, and the Start-Up and Expansion Team is also available to support applicants at any point in time.
