Graduate Students

*Dr. Verona is not recruiting a new graduate student for the Fall 2024 school year*

Graduate students in the lab are highly productive, and come out with various publications, strong internships, substantial assessment experience, and in the last few years two of them have received predoctoral training grants from NIH.

We welcome all applicants to email our current graduate students with any questions (emails can be found here).

Information about the Clinical Psychology doctoral program at USF can be found here.

Research Assistants

Are you interested in psychology & crime, emotional dyregulation, personality disorders, violence/aggression? This may be the research opportunity for you.

Types of Activities Performed by Research Assistants

Research assistants (RAs) are involved in helping run subjects and entering data for different studies investigating violence and suicide risk, substance use, emotion and psychophysiology, and psychopathic personality or antisocial (criminal) behavior. RAs typically can get involved in multiple studies, and help with various tasks, including conducting literature reviews, recruiting participants, phone scheduling and sometimes interviewing.

Requirements for Being a Research Assistant

RAs typically have GPAs of at least 3.2. We expect RAs to be responsible and timely-if you have trouble meeting commitments or are chronically late, this may not be the research lab for you. Research assistants typically work the equivalent of 10 hours a week. Some weekends are involved, but not very often. We are only recruiting students that can work on our jail project and require a commitment of at least three semesters, due to the fact that we do substantial training of RAs during the beginning of the semester. We prefer not to have to train students every semester. RAs interested in the jail project are required to travel to the Pasco County Jail and should factor travel times into their weekly commitments. Shifts are typically 4-5 hours total accounting for three hours at the jail, travel time, and pre/post session procedures at USF. Please talk to us about any or all of these things if you have further questions or concerns.

Our research lab meetings are held weekly, and undergraduate students are required to attend. It is imperative that you can make lab meetings each week and keep that time slot open in your schedule. Lab meetings are extremely informative and useful for your educational training and provide background information on the research we are conducting. In future semesters, always ask when lab meetings are being held if you are applying to be a research assistant in the lab.

**Letters of recommendation are only available to RAs that honor these commitments. Accepted RAs should only note this experience on their CV or resume if they meet the above requirements during their time in lab.

Interested students should complete the Research Assistant form below.
