Policies & Procedures

School Hours & Attendance: School is in session from 8:40 a.m. – 3:25 p.m. Monday- Friday. Regular attendance is necessary for your child to reach his/her highest potential. A school provided state form for absenteeism is required on the day your child returns to school. Please have your child here on time.

School Wide Positive Behavior: Each day we will recite our School Wide Positive Behavior Expectations. "Go with the FLOW"

F- I will be a friend

L- I will be a leader

O- I will be outstanding

W- I will be a worker

The third grade teachers use Behavior Alerts (aka Pink Slips) to communicate behaviors that don’t “Go with the FLOW.” If your child receives one of these, it is expected for them to bring the pink slip home to you that evening to be signed. Even more important than simply signing is to discuss making good choices with your child and being respectful of the learning environment OR “Going with the FLOW.” Return the pink slip on the next school day. If the Behavior Alert is not signed and returned there will be a consequence in school. If your child is continually struggling with positive behavior expectations in my class, I will contact you directly. Please praise your child's positive behavior and encourage them daily to make good choices and be kind.

Teacher/Parent Communicator Folder: Each day your child will bring home a blue folder called their Communicator Folder. All important notices will be put into this folder as well as any activities that are given to the students for practice that evening. Anything on the left side of the folder should be returned to school the following day. Papers on the right side should remain at home. Please be sure to keep items on the right side at home to ensure that your student’s folder remains an organized means of communication between school and home. Please put any teacher or office notes into this folder, as well as any lunch money. This will reinforce organization and make sure that important notes/money are turned in.

Weekly Communication Log: Each week your child will receive a paper that will be our Communication Log. This paper will document your child's daily behavior, assignments, reminders, and special notes from me. This log is to travel daily between home and school within their blue folder. I will file the page each week for documentation purposes, so please send it back in on Monday after your review on Friday.

Labeling: Please label all backpacks, lunchboxes, coats, etc. We always have many items with the same name brand, size, etc. Sweatshirts & hoodies end up in the lost and found quite often. I recommend labeling these as well so that they can be more easily returned to your child if they misplace them.

Student Information: Student Information forms (white stapled pages with star sticker) need to be completed the evening of the first day of school and returned the next day. Make sure that both sides are completed and we have emergency numbers available. If at any time you need any names/numbers changed, please write a note or send me a ClassTag message and the corrections will be made.

Dress: Please have your child dress in comfortable clothing. On most days your child sits on the floor, plays games, goes outside, etc. Your child will learn and play better if he/she is comfortable. Shorts are permitted during warm months. Please refer to the student handbook for details on the dress code. If your child is in violation of the dress code, you will be called to bring proper clothing items to the school. Your child needs to wear tennis shoes or rubber soled shoes on gym day in order to participate. Please make sure that your child has a coat, hat, and gloves to go out for recess during cooler months.

Toys: Please leave all toys at home. This includes personal electronic devices such as phones, tablets, etc. Students are permitted only to bring their district issued device. Toys and personal electronic devices that are brought to school and come out of bookbags will be confiscated and locked in the office or my room until you are able to come to school and pick them up. Thank you for your cooperation with this- we don't want any toys or devices from home to be lost, broken, or stolen.

Birthdays: Your child is welcome to bring in a treat for the class. Birthday invitations are only handed out in class when everyone in the class is invited OR all girls/boys are invited. If you are inviting a student from another class in the building please be prepared to mail that invitation. We will celebrate summer birthdays the last few weeks of school so all students can be acknowledged.

Concerns: Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. My email address is cbasham@mail.ocasd.org. If you prefer to call the school, it may take me a little longer to get back to you.

All 3rd grade teachers use the ClassTag App as a method of communication as well. We will send out information on how to get that set up for use.
