吳宜蓉老師生於台灣雲林，大學以前在台北成長，高中畢業於台灣師大附中，其後於國立成功大學完成大學與碩士學位，並赴英國與美國留學，現定居於高雄。

吳老師於美國威斯康辛大學麥迪遜分校取得教育領導與政策分析博士學位，副修教育心理學。依據 2025 年《美國新聞與世界報導》排名，該校教育學院為全美排名第一之教育學院。攻讀博士期間，她為教育科學跨學科培訓計畫及貧窮研究中心之國際博士生成員，並於校內擔任多項計畫、研究和教學助理職務，包括高等教育、教育統計與微積分先修課程助教，以及教育與工作銜接研究中心助理、教育學院院長室計畫助理與教育學院國際參與辦公室同儕輔導員。此外，她亦於英國曼徹斯特大學取得教育領導、國際人力資源管理暨比較工業關係雙碩士學位。
