Learning Through Play
Learning Through Play
I am a 2nd year teacher candidate at Niagara University of Ontario BPS program, focusing on primary/ junior students. I have a background in Early Childhood Studies and Special Education, as I've worked as an Educational Assistant for a few years before transitioning to the role of a teacher. I advocate for inclusive-based practices in the classroom and apply easy and practical solutions to the classroom. I have done a lot of research in the exploration of the socio-emotional development of students diagnosed with high-functioning autism, specifically looking at the effects of bullying on this demographic of students. The biggest takeaway from the research showed that it was important that all children feel welcome, safe, and represented in their classroom.
My teaching philosophy focuses on the whole child, in conjunction with Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory. This model aims to see the child as the central focus and views the systems in the child's life. Although not all the systems directly affect the child, they do play a role in that child's life.
