In this 2nd grade ceramics unit, students will explore the Big Idea of In/Visible by considering the Essential Question: How does the invisible affect the visible and vice versa? Specifically, students will be focusing on the concept of emotions. Students will learn fundamental ceramic skills, including attaching clay, making pinch pots, coiling, rolling slabs, wedging, and finishing techniques. Students will consider historical and contemporary artists as they brainstorm their emotional sculptures and craft them in clay. By the end of this unit, students will have a successful body of work that demonstrates their creativity and understanding of the In/Visible.
