PLOT SYNOPSIS
The Broadway musical The Addams Family is a comical and macabre story about love, family, and friendship. The musical is based on the original cartoons by Charles Addams. The story goes like this:
Wednesday Addams falls in love with a young man named Lucas Beineke from a respectable family. She introduces him to her family, but his parents have never met her. The Addams family host a dinner party to meet Lucas's parents, Mal and Alice. The dinner goes awry and the families share deep secrets.
Uncle Fester asks the Addams' ancestors to help the romance. He stops the ancestors from returning to their graves until love prevails.
The warring couples, Wednesday and Lucas, and Alice and Mal, make their peace. Gomez woos his wife with the promise to “laugh and cry and dance until the very gods weep with envy”. The gate to the family crypt swings open, allowing the spirits of the ancestors to rest for another year.
The musical illustrates that though the unknown may be frightening, when we face the darkness, love and acceptance await.
